[name_f]My[/name_f] second baby boy is due in [name_u]February[/name_u]. I would love input on the spelling of his name. Big brother is S0nny P@ul. Our surname is two syllables and starts with P.
Baby’s second name is going to be [name_u]Blue[/name_u] after my grandfather who sadly passed away during this pregnancy. After a bit of back and forth on our top names we have finally settled on Beau/Bo (provided it still feels right when we meet the little guy).
I am having a hard time deciding on the spelling. While I am usually always in favour of using the traditional spelling of a name, I have a few concerns in this case.
BEAU
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] feels a little like a jumble of letters to me. Does it look a bit confusing? [name_u]Will[/name_u] he have a hard time learning to spell his name? [name_u]Will[/name_u] other people always get it wrong? I am also concerned that people won’t intuitively know how to pronounce [name_u]Beau[/name_u] as it’s very uncommon where I live.
BO
[name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] looks a little more cohesive to me but is it too choppy/short? [name_u]Will[/name_u] he get teased about b.o. (body odour) in school? I really like that it means ‘wave’ in Mandarin. We made a big move to the sea right before getting pregnant with this baby and I have felt an ocean vibe for him all along, but could never find an ocean related name that felt right.
Congratulations! I love [name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] for you! I can see that there is special meaning behind his name, and it would be lovely for your son to grow up knowing the story behind it! I don’t think he would be teased about b.o. at all either!
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] indeed looks a bit confusing to me. If [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and other words/names spelled with eau are uncommon where you live I think it will be hard for people to learn the spelling or guess the pronouncation. However, [name_u]Beau[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] is still nice.
I like the simplicity of [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. Body odour doesn’t seem like something he’ll get teased about.
I prefer the look & simplicity of [name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u]. I went to high school with someone called [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and he was never teased, in fact people thought his name was really cool!
Thank you everyone. I think I’m leaning towards [name_u]Bo[/name_u] after confirmation from you fellow name-lovers that it’s not a sin to use the non-traditional spelling
I also meant to say I’m sorry for the loss of your grandfather. You’ve got a wonderful name to honour him with. And [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] & [name_u]Bo[/name_u] make the loveliest brothers
Thank you so much. I was able to tell my grandfather that we were naming baby after him right before he passed. It was such a special moment, he was very honoured.
If you want to call him [name_u]Beau[/name_u] but find the spelling difficult to decide, you could also do [name_m]Beaumont[/name_m] and shorten it. [name_m]Beaumont[/name_m] [name_u]Blue[/name_u]
I agree that [name_u]Beau[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] looks clunky, probably because they both have the same number of letters. I went to school with someone named [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and it wasn’t a problem. I think [name_u]Bo[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] is very nice. [name_m]Boe[/name_m] might be another spelling or [name_u]Bo[/name_u] could be a nickname for something like [name_m]Boone[/name_m].
