Thank you all so much for the feedback on my previous post. You really helped ease my fears that the boy names I like don’t pair well with our girl names. I also got a ton of ideas that I really like!
So, what order would you put these in and why? Any first-middle pairings that aren’t paired together that should be? [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] are family names, for background:
So many lovely combos! From most to least favourite
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] - I just love how fun and interesting [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] is, and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is so sweet
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] - Such a fun way to get to [name_m]Leo[/name_m]!
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] - [name_m]Roland[/name_m] is a very underrated name, I love the soft sound yet clearly masculine feel
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] - [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is cool and sounds good withJames
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - Definitely becoming more popular but [name_u]August[/name_u] is still a very handsome traditional choice and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] makes it more fun
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] - I really like [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], I just don’t think it matches with your other names in style. Same goes for [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
Thank you for this feedback! I’m having trouble figuring out which names match my “style”. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Griffin[/name_u]/Graham match best with the following girls’ names, or do the other names in this list match with them better?
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] ([name_f]Flora[/name_f])
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] ([name_f]Hattie[/name_f])
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] ([name_f]Lettie[/name_f])
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]/Ines
I’m considering [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] as well, but thought I’d through in some non-[name_u]James[/name_u] options. Thank you for the compliment!
To me [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] are both fun and handsome, but they seem more modern and rugged than classic, which is the vibe your other boy names and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]/Hariet/Juliet/Agnes have. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps!
Hugo [name_u]James[/name_u] - Timeless and very handsome!
Graham [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - Very charming. Beautiful flow
August [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - [name_f]Regal[/name_f] and classic. [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] would be perfect!
The following first names are not my style, but they fit really well with your girls’ list. Your list is wonderful, vintage and very sophisticated. I adore the nicknames.
5. [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
6. [name_m]Roland[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
7. [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] (nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m])
8. [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] (nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u])
9. [name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
Thank you so much for the feedback and the compliment! [name_m]Just[/name_m] to make sure I get what you mean, do you think your choices 5-9 fit better with the girls’ list than 1-4?
Otto [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (beautiful)
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] (these two are made for each other)
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (so charming)
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] (elegant and sweet)
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] (cool and fresh)
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] ([name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is cute)
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (quite nice)
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] (I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] in the first spot)
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] (neither name appeals)
I think all of them (maybe except for Griffin - too modern?) fit well with your girls’ list. All the names on your list are very traditional, classic/vintage and elegant.
However, the names from 5 to 9 are not really my style. I’m pickier with boys’ names, unfortunately. I love old-fashioned names for girls, but my taste for boys leans to popular names I can definitely see the appeal and recognize their great characteristics, but I don’t love them. I give the last 5 names a score of 6/10.

I am actually totally on the same page. I want to make sure whatever name we pick will fit with future siblings, but I love those old-fashioned girl names and the more modern, rustic boy names! v. difficult…
Thank you for the suggestions! I especially love [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_m]Clement[/name_m], and [name_u]Basil[/name_u]. I literally love [name_u]Basil[/name_u] so much - it would be on this list, but my fiance can’t get on board.
Hugo [name_u]James[/name_u]- A very classic, handsome sounding name that’ll do well in all ages of his life
August [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]- I love the name [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] goes super well!
Griffin [name_u]James[/name_u]- [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] is one of those names that keeps growing on me and [name_u]James[/name_u] goes super well with it
Bram [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
Roland [name_u]James[/name_u]
Leopold [name_u]James[/name_u]
Graham [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
8, [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]- [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
Thank you so much for the feedback! [name_m]Can[/name_m] you clarify what you mean in terms of [name_m]Bram[/name_m] being slightly dark? Is there an association with this name I don’t know about?
Of the first names on your list, I love [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] is also sweet. I think [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is great as well, but I’m not a fan of [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] because I can’t get over the negative association with [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] of Belgium and what happened in the [name_m]Congo[/name_m]. Most people probably won’t be familiar with that unless they study history, though, so maybe not something to worry about?
My favourites from your current list are [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], but I think [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] would also be great!
My fave is [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I actually have an [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] myself. He is [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. I love the O ending paired with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. [name_m]Otto[/name_m] is really sweet and uncommon without being too outlandish.
