I’ve only heard this name for a supernatural character of some kind. However, it does have an exotic feel to it for me as well. It is a very strong name.

Some possible nicknames that I can think of…
Bal
[name_f]Bali[/name_f]
Balto
Balty
Zar
Zaro

I really like it, but I really only like the [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] spelling. I recently found Baltaser in my family tree, and I’m sort of swooning over that!

I really like it: it certainly is out there, but in a good way (if that makes any sense), and I think that once it was bestowed upon a little boy, it would come down to earth a bit more. I see a [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] as being self-assured, confident and kind. He is a wonderful friend and sensitive to others emotions, but he knows when to stick up for himself and others. I can see a [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] in any field, but I don’t think he would be content to stay a checkout kid or a burger flipper: he dreams big, and he will do whatever to takes to get there. He works incredibly hard and he knows it: he is good at what he does because he works for it. I would love to meet a little [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m].

nn options: Bally, [name_u]Bay[/name_u], Thazar, Zari, [name_f]Altha[/name_f], [name_m]Thad[/name_m].

Thanks @shannagrace, @ashthedreamer & @nooshi for your comments!! I really appreciate it!

For your nn possibilities I really like : Zaro!

@nooshi : I adore the image of [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] you have!
@ashthedreamer : I dont really like [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] but Baltaser is stunning!

Any other opinion?

Awesome name!! NNs: [name_m]Al[/name_m], [name_f]Aly[/name_f], Balt, [name_u]Zen[/name_u], [name_m]Zed[/name_m]…

[name_f]My[/name_f] opinion is biased from the character on the tv show charmed… He was bad but also good… So I just think of that

I think of a strong minded person I don’t really know how else to explain as for nn’s I’m not sure … I’ve seen a lot of character’s with the name the first 2 I think of are charmed and sorcerer’s apprentice their actually why I like the name

The one from charmed mainly went by cole though he wasn’t a bad guy he was just in a bad situation he had a good heart

Sounds evil to me.

I think [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] is one of the most bad ass names out there. If a guy can rock [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], he’s pretty darn cool.

It’s our son’s middle name, and I wouldn’t have minded at all using it as a first if I could have gotten DH to agree. I absolutely love it! I’ve heard a couple of “it sounds evil” comments, but in my mind, I always think of the [name_f]Magi[/name_f] when I think of [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], so it’s a very positive association for me.

I love this name but my fiance dislikes it. He said it reminds him of that movie with [name_m]Tim[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] [name_f]Galaxy[/name_f] [name_m]Quest[/name_m] since there was a character in that movie with that name. But I think it is great. Seems like you have some great nn options already!

Thanks a lot berries for comments! I really appreciate it

I get the bad feel too but that makes me like it more :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know why I get a demon vibe from it, but I do.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you live in the US? That matters in my vote

I have heard of the wise men connection, but I mostly think of villains (demons and evil overlords in movies).

What about Bartimaeus? It has a similar feel to me minus the evil

I just picture a swarthy dude on a camel. Sounds very masculine to me.

I can see it on an old man, just not on a child. Sorry!
I think the nickname [name_u]Bay[/name_u] makes it more friendly, though, and it would make a cool middle name. I imagine [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] to be eccentric, though amiable.
If you really love it, use it, people use weirder names than [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] all the time!
