We have been going back and forth on this little babies name. The only one I’m loving that he will go with is [name_m]Oren[/name_m]. I love it because it’s both Hebrew and Scottish like our boy and it means pine/ash tree or green. I love nature names and the color green. It also has kinda of a fantasy vibe to it that I like about Lotr, game of thrones kind of names
The cons are [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] seems to rhyme with surname, is this a deal breaker? [name_u]James[/name_u] is after my dad Also the initials are Oj and Oj [name_m]Simpson[/name_m] is Orenthal [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_m]Will[/name_m] anyone even know that, I love so much about it but does it just not work?? I feel like I’m picking every name apart now
I just typed [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] into my search engine–and didn’t even hit enter–and several [name_m]Orin[/name_m]/[name_m]Oren[/name_m] Gordons popped up, so I don’t think it’s too rhymey to use! I never would have thought of OJ [name_m]Simpson[/name_m], and until now, I had no clue what OJ stood for.
I think of “orange juice” more than “OJ [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]”, even though I’m aware of the latter.
I think [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is super handsome, but if you’re worried about the initials that much, would you consider a second MN? I think something like [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] would be lovely. It seems like you’re really in love with [name_m]Oren[/name_m], so I’d definitely go for it! [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], and [name_m]Oren[/name_m] are really great together. It’s a really great name. I would say go for it!
Good luck!
I would focus on the sound [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] as we only say our first and last names together and for me, it would be too rhymey, but it all depends on how you feel about it.
I adore [name_m]Oren[/name_m]! I went to college with a guy names [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m]… and I think [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] sounds more attractive.
[name_m]Oren[/name_m] is such a great name. I didn’t at all think of OJ [name_m]Simpson[/name_m], but would think those initials would only not work if your last name was also [name_m]Simpson[/name_m] or something close.
I would go for it!
Thanks everyone, that’s a more positive response than I expected. Ashthedreamer I like your idea of a second middle and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] was actually on our list but dad doesn’t like it now for a first name. I don’t think he’d go for two middles but I’ll bring it up. I have also realized [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds like orange when it runs together but I also see a ton of people named [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] surname online and not sure that should be a deal killer. At this point my husband has only approved:
[name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] -he loves but I’m really not feeling anything for [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] for some reason.I think it feels to trendy for me there are a lot here, it feels very safe
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]- I love [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] he doesn’t so much but says he’d call him [name_m]Benji[/name_m] which isn’t my taste I much prefer [name_m]Ben[/name_m] but if it gets us to [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] I may choose this as I think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m]- is a pretty great name, less problematic than [name_m]Oren[/name_m] combo but does lack the special feeling of [name_m]Oren[/name_m] for me
I think it works very well!
I love [name_m]Oren[/name_m]! Sounds like such a nice kid/guy name, and love the nature meaning. [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] is rhymey, but it sounds like you love the name too much to let that be a deal-breaker. I say use it. I don’t think the OJ initials are a big deal unless you were going to call him that. I doubt hardly anyone knows OJ [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]'s full name! Congrats!
Thanks, i do love [name_m]Oren[/name_m]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] he gets here before dad changes his mind, lol
Go for it!!!
It’s ok. I’d opt for [name_m]Otis[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] for a similar vibe, but pick what you love!
I like the suggestion of [name_m]Otis[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m]. [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_m]Gorden[/name_m] is a little too much for my taste, but best of luck!
Thank you, but I really dislike [name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m]
Seems like a name you really love, so I say you should use it! Honestly, I kind of like the near rhyme of [name_m]Oren[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m]- makes it sound catchy and memorable.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_m]Oren[/name_m], had never heard of it before but I think it’s gorgeous and not too rhymey with [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] at all.
The OJ [name_m]Simpson[/name_m] thing’s a wee bit unsettling when you write it out like that, but at least your last name’s not [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]
I had no idea that was what the OJ stood for myself, and I imagine most don’t. Plus, with the number of people in the world, any one kid is bound to have similarities in their name with a bunch of unpleasant as well as amazingly wonderful folk.
Thank you kiriko, I love that you had never heard it before and like it as I imagine it will be a surprise to some people we know I hope they like it just as well. I like this name so much that I’m when OK with it if our family has raised eyebrows. They are mostly not Jewish so probably not expecting a name so different. You make a great point about sharing our names with greats and not so greats
[name_m]Oren[/name_m] is a lovely name, you’re right it does have a soulful kind of other worldly vibe
I think the half-rhyme with your surname isn’t a deal breaker and there are probably thousands with the initials OJ, I don’t think it’s a problem
You’re lucky to have found a name that you love so much, so many people end up compromising or choosing a name that they’re just okay with- I hope you go for it!
