Stand alone I love [name_u]Elias[/name_u] most! A close second is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. I love the nn possibilities Bash and [name_m]Bastion[/name_m]!
Here’s a breakdown of my hesitation with each one.
Elias - don’t like the nickname Eli. Sometimes hear Linus and not fond of that either. we’re not religious and it seems to be a religious name.
Sebastian - #5 in my state so feeling too popular. Not in love with the nicknames and too long to use without a nickname.
Quinn - popular for females right now. sometimes hear a man’s irish name but other times hear a female name, like gwen.
Orion - sometimes sounds like oh, ryan. we don’t want his name to be ryan. We like the constellation association.
Quincy - not a 5th child, maybe too young sounding for when he’s a man
Rye - this would be a nickname for Orion, but thought it could also stand on it’s own. We tend to like having a full name with a nickname option though.
I wish I was in love with one and it just spoke to me. I tried looking back through names again, and these are the best ones. I’d love any input figuring this out.
From the names you like I’ll give a few suggestions that seem similar to me.
Elliott
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m]
[name_m]Orson[/name_m]
[name_u]Quentin[/name_u]
I love [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and [name_u]Orion[/name_u] on your list. I feel like [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is the name that fits best with your family name. Good luck with baby boy!
I picked [name_u]Elias[/name_u] because I love the sound of it. But my second pick and after reading your run down would be [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Rye[/name_u] is an adorable nn! I could see [name_u]Rye[/name_u] alone too. I don’t hear “Oh, [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]” at all until it was mentioned. And I think I could forget that sound association quickly too.
I like lots of these options, but I think only a couple sound good with your last name. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_u]Rye[/name_u] are both a little choppy. [name_u]Orion[/name_u] Cardwell is kind of a mouthful for me.
My favorites are [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]. I voted for [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] because it’s more original and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] Cardwell sounds so cool.
I voted for Orion before reading your breakdown and after reading your breakdown I still vote Orion. I’ve known one Orion and the Oh Ryan things never hit me until now and I think if it did click to someone it’s so easy to forget about!
I feel if you’re torn between Quinn and Quincy and have other options on the plate I’d let these to names pass now to avoid possible name regret of “ai should have picked the other one” FYI: the Quinn’s I know are female so I see your issue with that name. Quinton is usually what I see as the male version of it…’and now that I say it I DO think that goes nicely with your last name.
My second vote would have been Sebastian but if your not liking the nn’s that’s be a tough name to carry.
I think you COULD get away with Elias but if you’re not wanting the biblical association maybe err on the side of caution So that would be my third pick!
I voted for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. It’s one of my favourites and I think [name_m]Seb[/name_m] and Bash are both such great nicknames. I also like [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] is quite cool too actually…
I love [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] with your last name!
Quinn & [name_u]Rye[/name_u] tie for me
I really like [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] but I think [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] C@rdwell is just the coolest name!
I love the simple, snappy sound and the subtle alliteration.
Best of luck!
Love love love [name_u]Elias[/name_u]!! [name_u]Elias[/name_u] Cardwell works so well. I think it’s short enough to not need a nickname so I think [name_u]Eli[/name_u] is easily avoidable.
My second choice would be [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. Again [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] Cardwell works really nicely. I think it’s a truely unisex name, so I definitely think is works great on a boy.
I don’t mind [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], but agree it is quite a long name if you don’t like any of the nicknames. You could a nickname based upon his middle name!
I love [name_u]Orion[/name_u] and [name_u]Elias[/name_u]! For [name_u]Elias[/name_u], maybe his nickname could be [name_u]Lee[/name_u]? I’m pronouncing it Eh-LEE-us. However, I also don’t think [name_u]Elias[/name_u] needs a nickname, necessarily. As for [name_u]Orion[/name_u], I just think it sounds so cool, and I love the association. He may get the occasional “Oh [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]” jokes, but I wouldn’t say it’s a deal-breaker. It may not even cross some minds. I think kids may find a way to tease no matter what the name is, unfortunately.
I love [name_u]Orion[/name_u]! It’s unique but not weird and it has that super cool space connection.
I voted for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] at first, but after reading your concerns [name_u]Elias[/name_u] feels like the best choice.
I voted for [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]! It does lean female, but works equally well on a boy.
If you are concerned though, [name_u]Elias[/name_u] or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] feel safest.
Doesn’t really seem like any of the names on your short list you really love…

Hi there.
Great list!
Here are my favorite to least favorite rankings:
Sebastian-I love this. It’s so smart & handsome. And it sounds completely dapper w/your ln. That’s too bad about the popularity though, & the fact that you don’t like any of the nns. Have you thought of the nn [name_m]Satch[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like that?
Elias-I think that this is a great name, & I agree much better than just [name_u]Eli[/name_u]. But if you don’t like [name_u]Eli[/name_u], I wouldn’t use [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. You’re likely to get an [name_u]Eli[/name_u] at least on occasion.
Quinn-Ugh, I hate that this has gone to girls. It’s totally boyish & charming for a male in my opinion. What do you think of [name_u]Quinlan[/name_u]?
Rye-Yeah, it makes more sense as a nn I guess. But it’s kind of unique on its own. I like the Catcher in the [name_u]Rye[/name_u] vibe. Maybe that is a turn on or turn off for you. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Rider[/name_m]/Ryder at all?
Quincy-Meh, I wouldn’t worry about the fact that it’s not a fifth child. This is kind of cute & different. It works for a grown man okay.
Orion-Now, I don’t dislike this name. I think some people say it ‘[name_u]Or[/name_u]-ee-in’…like oreo, but w/an ‘in’ at the end. Maybe I’m mistaken? I think it’s better as a mn, but it is different & has a cool association.
Hope this helps.
Quinn is my favorite of your list but I love the suggestion from @Amber_Joy of [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]!
