Although I’m not expecting to have a baby for a very long time (still a teenager), of course it doesn’t stop me from fantasizing about the names that my children could possibly have. Some of my choices have been influence by my heritage; I’m full Polish on both sides of my family and my brother and I are 2nd generation Canadian. I wouldn’t mind integrating some of that Polish heritage into my name choices but I want to know what you guys think of the ones I have so far. I like old-fashioned names with a bit of British inspiration, but I’m interested to know if the Polish names I’ve put up are too different. Personally I’m loving [name_f]Zofia[/name_f] and Kaz the best!
I really like the name [name_f]Kasia[/name_f] actually, it’s familiar enough to English speakers while still being Polish. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce it?
I think [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] are too popular at the moment for [name_m]Jakub[/name_m] and [name_f]Zofia[/name_f] to be used without it seeming like they’re trendy misspellings to people who don’t realise you’re Polish - I think with a Polish surname you’re ok to use them, but with an English surname it’ll look like you thought spelling it [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] just wasn’t unique enough for you.

As for [name_m]Jakub[/name_m], it wasn’t a front runner for me to begin with, but [name_f]Zofia[/name_f], I thought the spelling was unique enough to have to worry about someone saying “Oh… another [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].” right?
@essjay [name_f]Kasia[/name_f] is pronounced Ka-Sha, Polish is an easy enough phonetic language to read and I know family would have no trouble with that. [name_m]Jakub[/name_m] wasn’t my frontrunner anyways either, but [name_f]Zofia[/name_f], I thought the Z at the beginning would differentiate her name well considering I don’t want something to think “Oh, another [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sofia[/name_f].”

Most of those are family names like [name_m]Mateusz[/name_m], [name_m]Henryk[/name_m], my brothers name is [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] but we call him Krzysiu (Kshish-oo) which is close to [name_m]Krzysztof[/name_m].

And for [name_m]Maksim[/name_m], it looks softer compared to the ‘y’ in the middle of the name, good call!
