Polish Name Trouble Part 2

So as I explained in my earlier post, my husband and I are learning Polish and will be raising our kids in a bilungual househols. Therefor we want them to have names that sound good when were speaking to them in both Polish and English. We decided that since most truky Polish names are hard for English speakers to pronounce correctly we will give them a first nane that sounds good in English and will be easy for teachers, classmates, etc to pronounce. Then we will give them a polish middle name that theyll go by when were speaking to them in Polish. The problem arrose when i brought up to my husband that [name]Merrick[/name] is actually a Polish name. I want it in the middle spot, but he wants it in the first spot. I like [name]Liam[/name] [name]Merrick[/name], but he is set on [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name]. Which I guess is fine… We would just use [name]Merrick[/name] all the time. I guess Im just sad because I love [name]Liam[/name].so.much! But anyways wed like to havea few more.options as well in case he just doesnt look like a [name]Merrick[/name].

The Polish names we like are:
Oliwier (oh lee vyare) My [name]FAVORITE[/name]!
[name]Konrad[/name]- husbanss favorite! again though, he wants to use it as.a first name.
[name]Lew[/name] (lev)
[name]Liev[/name]

Please help!! My husband is so.stubborn. He is set on using [name]Merrick[/name] and [name]Konrad[/name] as first names. But at the same time he wants Polish middle names. I just dont know what to do! [name]Just[/name] use those names.for.english and polish? I really want to use Oliwier though. Id love to use it all the time. But with him so set on [name]Merrick[/name] and [name]Konrad[/name],.I dont.know whatto do! I need to think.of something we both like more! Please help!

Oh and I almost forgot my other favorite polish name… Gracjan (grahts-yahn) its a form of grayson

I like [name]Merrick[/name]!

All of those names, except for Oliwier and Gracjan, were pretty easy for me to read correctly (and I don’t know ANY polish!). I think you could use them as first names and not have any confusion with schoolmates/teachers/ect.

Since Oliwier sounds like [name]Oliver[/name], and Gracjan sounds like [name]Grayson[/name], is there an issue with just using the more common spelling? When you teach them to write in Polish, just have them spell it the traditional way and when they write in English spell it the English way. For speaking, it won’t really matter what the spelling is.

That is the issue… we dont like the Engish forms ‘grayson’ and ‘oliver’. We only like it the polish way. What about…

[name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name] (polish and english both merrick)
[name]Konrad[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] (both polish and english, konrad, and nn [name]Ike[/name])
[name]Onek[/name] [name]Ignatius[/name] ([name]Onek[/name] in polish, [name]Ike[/name] in english)
[name]Liev[/name] Oliwie(liev in english, oliwier in polish)

Great news and bad news! Bad news, husband doesnt like Oliwier anymore. He said it sohnds like a girls name to him now. Great news is that he LOVES [name]Konrad[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]! [name]Ive[/name] never gotten him to agree to using [name]Isaac[/name]! I love it and he has always hated it. But since we can use [name]Konrad[/name] in Enflish and Polish and he will never really be called [name]Isaac[/name],.he agreed. I am so excited! So our winners are [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Konrad[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]!
