POLL: Can Neve be a sister to Maeve?

I have gone back and forth with the name Neve for a girl. Her siblings are Liam, Eamon and Maeve. Part of me worries Neve sounds too similar to Maeve, but it’s such a pretty Irish name! Also, I know some of you love it spelled Niamh, but Maeve is also an anglicized version of an Irish name so I’m not above it.

Do you feel Neve is too similar to Maeve to be her little sister?

I don’t think it’s so similar you can’t get away with it, but it would give me pause because I believe they could easily get mixed up when called out or written down, and that’s more hassle than I’d personally want to deal with!

I would be tongue tied but if it works for the parents its fine

I think you could get away with it as the sounds are different enough, but I personally find them too matchy in look, letters, style and sound

I definitely find them too close, sorry! How about [name_f]Nuala[/name_f] or [name_f]Nola[/name_f]?

They are very similar sounding, but my children actually went to school with two sisters named [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Neve[/name_f]. The parents had used the [name_u]Irish[/name_u] spelling though!

I think it works with a number of other siblings, such is the case here. I’d consider [name_f]Neva[/name_f] or [name_f]Nieva[/name_f] though, if it’s the sound that you like most. Perhaps [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] if you would like to use an [name_u]Irish[/name_u] name.

I think you can do it and it wouldn’t matter but I just don’t think I would - too close for me. What about Fiadh/Fia, [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Orla[/name_f], Oona/Una, [name_f]Laoise[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f] or [name_f]Aoife[/name_f]?

It could work, I doubt they would be the first Neve/Niamh and Maeve/Meadhbh sisters! But for me personally it would be a little too similar.

Also - just in case it skewes your poll, I initially voted “no” in response to your title (can [name_f]Neve[/name_f] be a sister to Maeve) & then realised the poll was in response to your last sentence (do you feel [name_f]Neve[/name_f] is too similar to Maeve) so I changed my answer. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to mention this as other people may have voted incorrectly for the same reason as me.
