Girl #2 : (due soon) We picked out and agreed on a name, which is our front runner against which we compare any/all other names that happen across our radar.
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] is most definitely our naming style.
Our name style is:
1 syllable
confident, not frilly
a little spunky or feisty or tomboy
not biblical
intuitive pronunciation and spelling
our LN is a color name. So the FN cannot be a color name or season name… or any other name that makes our FN LN combo sound like a crayon.
doesn’t sound terrible in [name_u]French[/name_u]
For more sense of our naming vibe, here are examples of Names that have made our top 15 (in no order):
Meg
Mel
Liv
Liz
Tamsin (not 1 syll, unfortunately, but it’s hung around on our list for its zest and spunkiness. Never pulled the trigger to use it because of the intuitive, easy NN of [name_f]Tammy[/name_f])
Claire comes off as more frilly to me then [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. But then again there is [name_f]Claire[/name_f] Danes who is anything but frilly so I guess they both work!
@Alix2016 there’s also the character on House of Cards, Claire Underwood, who is clever, cunning, suave, and simultaneously disarming, refined, and cutthroat.
The character Claire in the TV version of Daredevil is confident, brave, reliable, and stands her ground.
I do prefer [name_f]Claire[/name_f] – both with sister [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and in general. It is a strong, versatile classic, tailored yet feminine, just like [name_f]Tess[/name_f], very simple, etc. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] just doesn’t match the vibe for me.
But whichever you end up going with will be lovely, I am sure.
(Fwiw, if I could, I would vote for [name_f]Meg[/name_f]. I love the idea of [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Meg[/name_f] as sisters!)
@elanorelle I knooow. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Meg[/name_f] sound great. But with our LN, [name_f]Meg[/name_f] would sound like M’cray (meg gr@y). And I have a firm name-them-only-what-you’ll-call-them rule (ie I wont pick [name_f]Megan[/name_f] to only call her [name_f]Meg[/name_f]).
I love the idea of [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]! I voted for [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] in the poll because I find [name_f]Claire[/name_f] to be more girly while [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] sounds strong like [name_f]Tess[/name_f].
Not sure about the [name_u]French[/name_u] thing but I could see [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] imo working with the rest of the criteria!
Thanks all. Please keep the poll votes coming! It’s definitely between these two choices at the moment, so your votes – and explanation why you’re on TEAM CLAIRE or TEAM QUINN is suuper helpful.
Feel free to sing the praises of one name, or trash talk the other
I voted for [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f]! I think that they go better together than [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] seems mismatched with [name_f]Tess[/name_f] to me. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] is feisty and spunky, but it has a subtle elegance. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is the same to me- it does seem softer, but it’s definitely got the right amount of spunk. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] seems more modern and harsh.
Plus, if [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is what you’ve liked through the whole pregnancy, it seems like a clear winner : ).
I voted [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. They both seem non frilly, non fuss, strong names for girls.
Claire I actually really love, but I imagine it more cool, restrained and feminine. Where [name_f]Tess[/name_f] just seems stronger and more lively. (If that makes any sense)
I find [name_f]Tess[/name_f] elegant, feminine and still strong. I feel like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] fits the feminine and elegant part and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is strong. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] also sounds classic and traditional ([name_f]Tess[/name_f] of D’urbervilles) as does [name_f]Claire[/name_f] ([name_m]Tennyson[/name_m]’s [name_f]Lady[/name_f] [name_u]Clare[/name_u]) so that’s why I voted [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
The only [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] I’ve ever known was a boy, but I know the name is currently more popular for girls, so I honestly would have no idea and wouldn’t assume one way or the other.
