Poll for name Lazarus

[name]Lazarus[/name] is a lot to handle I think for a kid. I love your intentions. I agree maybe a middle name might be the compromise for your husband. I think too about future spouses for some reason… Weird I know… But I just think about introducing my spouse, “and heres my husband [[name]Lazarus[/name]]…” Would that be with pride/ease? If you think so, go with your gut. It would just be an intimidating name for my taste.

I think [name]Lazarus[/name] is a GREAT name! I don’t have negative connotations with it at all, and I think the biblical account is only a plus for it! [name]Both[/name] biblical Lazaruses were loved by God and one was a personal friend of [name]Jesus[/name] when he was on earth - [name]Jesus[/name] even wept over his death (before bringing him back to life!) And while I agree that your other sons have more common names, I don’t think that makes this one less desirable. They’re all biblical, which ties them together nicely, in my opinion. I’d love to meet a little [name]Lazarus[/name].

I would probably combine it a middle like [name]Jack[/name], or [name]Jude[/name].

What I notice is [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], and [name]Nathan[/name] are both more common and not New Testament, kind of leaving [name]Lazarus[/name] hanging out by itself there.

Not that that’s a huge problem, and [name]Lazarus[/name] was actually on our own list for awhile.

Other Biblical names that sort of remind me more of your first three, not super common (like, say, [name]James[/name] or [name]Noah[/name] or [name]Luke[/name]) but not as unusual as [name]Lazarus[/name]: [name]Micah[/name], [name]Levi[/name], [name]Joel[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Samson[/name], [name]Tobias[/name].

Names off the Biblical deep end that I love and would use anyway if I could convince my husband: [name]Jabez[/name], [name]Jethro[/name], [name]Zacharias[/name], [name]Zebulon[/name], [name]Hanan[/name]. I would go with [name]Lazarus[/name] if I loved it but as you can see I’m not afraid of the more out-there Biblical names.

Jezreel is really cool…I never would have thought of it on my own. He was [name]Hosea[/name] the prophet’s son. [name]Little[/name] Jezzy (we have an Ezzy-[name]Ezra[/name], in the fam already, but oh well). I’m going back and forth on my willingness to stick with [name]Lazarus[/name]. I think it’s kind of funny that some of the posts have other name suggestions like [name]Obadiah[/name]…although she also posted that she likes [name]Lazarus[/name]…because to me [name]Obadiah[/name] is way more out there than [name]Lazarus[/name]. Or [name]Jericho[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]…[name]Jericho[/name], wasn’t that a wrestler’s name…it sounds stranger than [name]Lazarus[/name] to me…I’m sure it’s all about perspective though. Thanks for the suggestions. I am due in 2 days. Wish me luck. I will check back if anyone has any other ideas. [name]HOW[/name] ABOUT BIBLE REFERENCE NAMES? Like [name]Trinity[/name] for a girl…but in a boy sense. Any ideas on that line? Hurry…I’m running out of time!!!

no!!! i work with pre teens they are mean to eachother they will be cruel dont do it

I get the cruel kid thing, but don’t you think they are cruel no matter what.? I remember “[name]Hannah[/name] [name]Banana[/name]”, “[name]Jake[/name] the snake”, there were worse ones that I don’t want to mention…and all with the normal names we all had growing up. Help!! I definetely see more negative comments on [name]Lazarus[/name] than positive ones. I need a name!! Most of the Bible names you all suggested are taken in my family and the other kind of strange ones my husband and I can’t agree on.

Go for it!!! [name]Lazarus[/name] is an AMAZING name, especially with the cool nn Laz. A few combos I like are:

[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Jase[/name] “God Has Helped, Healer”
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] “God Has Helped, Exalted, Strong”
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Josiah[/name] “God Has Helped, God [name]Will[/name] Save”
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Declan[/name] “God Has Helped, Full of Goodness”

Thanks [name]Alexia[/name]. I will check your info out. So do you think I should not care what most of the other people are saying about [name]Lazarus[/name] and just go for it? I think it’s interesting that most of the people have commented that [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Nathan[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name] are commen names…I get [name]Nathan[/name]…but you would’nt believe the eye rolls I got on the other two. My husband’s favorite name was always [name]Ezekiel[/name]…I hesitated and never used it…now I regret it because a family member took it and now I’m faced with [name]Lazarus[/name] instead. I told my husband if I moved to another country or was on a deserted island I would love the name…'cause secretely I do, but I dread telling family members that his name is [name]Lazarus[/name]. [name]Even[/name] worse, my neighbors and friends who all have chose very “normal” names for their children.

I actually love the suggestion of Zephan for you. [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], and Zephan is a gorgeous sibset and I don’t think it would be too out there. Zephan [name]Lazarus[/name] would even be a great name!

I like [name]Lazarus[/name], but I think it would definitely raise eyebrows. Maybe you could use a middle name like [name]John[/name] or [name]Jack[/name], and call him LJ mainly? That might be a way to help your family/friends/neighbors get around the “weirdness” (I don’t think it’s weird, but…)

I also like [name]Eleazar[/name], which is similar to your husband’s previous favorite, [name]Ezekiel[/name]. That probably doesn’t help at all, but hopefully all the comments you’ve gotten will help you come to a decision!

So are you ready to take that leap or not?
A lot of the more common names are taken in your family, so you either deal with the reactions or go non-biblical.

[name]Ezekiel[/name] would have been good, more out there than the other boys’ names but not way over the top like [name]Lazarus[/name]. [name]Hezekiah[/name] is way way over but it’s similar to [name]Ezekiel[/name] and gives the nn [name]Zeke[/name]

If you want different but not too different, these are biblical and in line with current naming trends
[name]Moriah[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Ardon[/name]
[name]Omar[/name]
[name]Salem[/name]
[name]Jeremiah[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
Dothan
[name]Canaan[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Enoch[/name]
[name]Jordan[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Titus[/name]
[name]Shiloh[/name]
Corinth

Thanks again for more ideas…just curious, what makes Zephan less “out there” than [name]Lazarus[/name]? Is it the fact that [name]Lazarus[/name] is a well known Bible figure but out there name and Zephan is not? I just want to know why [name]Lazarus[/name] is considered so crazy. [name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong, my first reaction was, what? You want to name him that? When my husband first mentioned it, but some of the suggestions people give us, like [name]Enoch[/name] for example, I believe are kind of off the deep end Bible names too. Oh and, I like [name]Eleazar[/name], which is actually [name]Lazarus[/name] in a different form, but I see it being shortened to [name]Ellie[/name]…like a girl. And, I don’t really want to name him [name]Lazarus[/name] and then whimp out and call him by his middle name [name]Scott[/name] or what have you. If I’m going to go bold, I’m going to go all in!!! (:

No one knows of any other symbolic Bible names…Any? Like [name]Trinity[/name] or [name]Christian[/name]…boys only of course? Anyone???

There is a Negro Spiritual/folk song (thats the correct term, Im not saying anything racist) called “[name]Po[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]” and thats what the name reminds me of so I cant really see it used today. I find it a little depressing.

Elijah is in the Top 20 most popular names in the country. I consider it pretty easy-going and innocuous on the Bible scale, not quite to James/Mark levels of bland but not much past Noah and Isaac.

I like Lazarus but its nickname possibilities really stump me. I like Levi?

Jericho doesn’t seem out there to me, but I have a cousin named that.

Are Gabriel and Raphael out? They get used semi-frequently. My husband won’t go for Raphael but is willing to consider Gabriel or Gideon.

For the record, I like [name]Lazarus[/name] alot! I think Laz or [name]Russ[/name] could be nicknames. The only thing is someone once pointed out to me that Laz (which I said I would primarily call him since [name]Lazarus[/name] is long) is “one letter short of Lazy”

Some options if you wanted more-- that aren’t on your relatives list.
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Titus[/name]
[name]Abram[/name] / [name]Abraham[/name]

Sorry, drawing a blank!

Biblical concept name ideas…my far-and-away favorite for a boy right now is [name]Ransom[/name]. I’d like to have a son named [name]Ransom[/name]. I have the combo [name]Ransom[/name] [name]Horatio[/name] on my list; I keep waffling between the variations [name]Horatio[/name] and [name]Horatius[/name] for the mn, and right now I like [name]Horatio[/name] best. Since the meaning of [name]Horatio[/name] has to do with “hours,” [name]Ransom[/name] [name]Horatio[/name] rather carries the concept of “redeeming the time,” as in the Scripture.
Other possibilities I like that may work for you:
[name]Constant[/name]
[name]Freedom[/name]
[name]Justice[/name]
[name]Noble[/name]
I like Deliverance, but only as a mn, as in [name]James[/name] Deliverance. I know of little boys named [name]Honor[/name], Providence and Triumph, but I don’t think they solve your “too-out-there” dilemma!
Best wishes for a safe birth and the perfect name for your new son!

Thanks for the [name]Christian[/name] answers website. I will check it out. Also, thanks for all of the suggestions. It’s my due date and here I sit. [name]Just[/name] a question to aurora dawn…What are all the names at the bottom of your posts? I really like [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Christian[/name]. My husband won’t go for [name]Tobias[/name], but I like it. And regarding [name]GABRIEL[/name], [name]GIDEON[/name] AND [name]RAPHAEL[/name]…We both love the story about [name]Gideon[/name] and watched a movie with the most adorable character in it named [name]Gabriel[/name] years ago and can’t remember the name. My husband doesn’t like it for a child though. I do have a girl second cousin named [name]Gabriel[/name]. [name]Even[/name] though I think it better suits the boy, my thought keeps going to her. [name]Raphael[/name] doesn’t seem to sit well for me…I do think of a famous turtle my kids watch on tv ):

@ boys rule–that’s my [name]Dream[/name] List. Many users post their children’s names and/or favorite names in their signatures. Since I’m not yet married, my list at this point is only for fun, but those are my current Top 7 boys’ names and Top 7 girls’ names. Since my (hopefully) children are probably at least several years into the future and I don’t have a boyfriend, let alone a husband, to run my favorite names by, at this point I’d only be flattered if someone on Nameberry actually used one of my combinations! [name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Christian[/name]. It’s currently my top boy’s name. Although I like several of the others so much that the designation of the Top Spot was a difficult choice!
Again, best wishes for the safe birth of your boy!

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Dawn[/name]…I hope your future husband likes your choices. That’s the problem I have with our names. My husband loves [name]Lazarus[/name], I don’t as much. I would prefer [name]Luke[/name], [name]Seth[/name], Zaccheaus, [name]Zechariah[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and now [name]Tobias[/name]!! I have had [name]Seth[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] picked out for a long time. My husband doesn’t care for it. Oh well, we can’t have everything. We both agreed on [name]Elijah[/name] before we were married.

Well fellow namers, I’m still here. Due today…couple more hours left. If you don’t hear from me in a while…I will write when I get home with the little bundle and let you know what we decided!!

boys rule – does he like [name]Tobiah[/name] instead?
[name]Thaddeus[/name] or [name]Titus[/name]?

[name]Happy[/name] due date! Sorry you are still waiting.

Why not use [name]Eleazar[/name], which is what [name]Lazarus[/name] is Latin for? [name]Lazar[/name] is the traditional Jewish nn for [name]Eleazar[/name]/[name]Eliezer[/name]. I think it fits much better with [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], and [name]Nathan[/name].
