We want to name our fourth boy [name]Lazarus[/name]. All of his brothers have Bible names. Is this name too unique. I don’t want him to be picked on. We figured Laz for a nick name. Also, what goes with [name]Lazarus[/name]? We need a middle name. We are not looking for a Bible middle name…something shorter would be nice. Thanks so much for your input.
Congratulations on your coming son, and way to go for picking [name]Lazarus[/name]! I think it’s a great name, and I’ve had it on my list. I don’t know how it does in real life, though, because I’ve never met a [name]Lazarus[/name]. My brother [name]Barnabas[/name] doesn’t have much trouble, though, and the names are similar.
Suggestions for middle names:
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Cale[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Christian[/name] (a combo I had on my list)
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Cole[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Hale[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Heath[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Jack[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]John[/name] (I think this one is my favorite. It looks and sounds good, and the solid, familiar [name]John[/name] anchors the more exotic [name]Lazarus[/name].)
If I nicknamed a [name]Lazarus[/name], I think I might pick [name]Russ[/name]. (The downside is that people will assume he’s [name]Russell[/name].) Best wishes!
P.S. If you don’t mind sharing, what are your other sons’ names?
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Ryan[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]David[/name]
I like the sound of the name [name]Lazarus[/name], but the only boy I know with this name (and his parents) ultimately found it unusable because of the associations and negative responses and reverted to his middle name, [name]Dylan[/name].
I like the sound of [name]Lazarus[/name], and I think it could work fine.
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]David[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Trent[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Beau[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Blake[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Cole[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Grey[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Heath[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Scott[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Todd[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Vaughn[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Pierce[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Reed[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Graham[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Owen[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Wayne[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Donovan[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
I agree with thuja, I couldn’t get over the associations although I like the sound.
The two Lazarus’ in the Bible are known for dying. Then there’s an old Southern song called Po’ Lazarus. It was featured at the beginning of O Brother Where Art Thou? That Lazarus ends up dead too.
BUT there are a lot of positives. One Lazarus was so loved by Jesus that he was resurrected, one ended up in Heaven, and one was considered a hero for standing up against mistreatment. Still I just think death and sorrow when I hear the name, although it could just as easily evoke bravery, happiness, and closeness to God
Eleazar is the Greek form of Lazarus, you could use it instead
Lazarus Eleazar- High Priest and son of Aaron
Lazarus Aaron
Lazarus Phinehas- High Priest and son of Eleazar/Lazarus
Lazarus Israel
Lazarus Abraham
Lazarus Isaac
Lazarus Amos
Lazarus Joel
ETA: Oops! You said you didn’t want Biblical middles.
I like the sound of Lazarus Phinehas/Phineas and most don’t even know it’s Biblical. Lazarus Aaron sounds good too
Thanks to all who responded. I do like [name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Scott[/name] and [name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Graham[/name]. He could be named after the great [name]Billy[/name] [name]Graham[/name]. Anyway…I know all the negatives to this name…I hesitate myself with the name…but my husband loves it. I don’t want the little guy picked on. But, there are some pretty unusual names out there these days. I can’t imagine what a little [name]Phineas[/name] would go through these days ([name]Phineas[/name], where’s Ferb?) or an [name]Olivia[/name], who is a little pig on a cartoon. [name]How[/name] about Cliffords? (the big red dog?) I hope that his name builds character. I interpret the “[name]Lazarus[/name]” story as a story about God’s timing. When [name]Jesus[/name] heard that [name]Lazarus[/name] was sick/died he stayed where he was and didn’t rush home to heal him. No one could understand this…and some where angry with [name]Jesus[/name]. But [name]Jesus[/name] knew that everything would go according to God’s plan…and decided to wait. The life lesson I have learned over my 8.5 years as a mother of 3 boys and a wife is that my timing means absolutely nothing and even though I see a situation as grim as all those did in [name]Lazarus[/name]’ day, God knows what he is doing. So [name]Lazarus[/name], my son, I hope you won’t be teased, but if you are, mumma loves you.
Oh, and my other boys are [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], and [name]Nathan[/name].
[name]Lazarus[/name] is a cool name, and the fact it has meaning to you is a bonus. Are you planning on having more children after [name]Lazarus[/name]? My only hesitation would be this: [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], and [name]Nathan[/name] are all relatively common names. [name]Lazarus[/name] is a little more out there. If you plan to have more kids, [name]Lazarus[/name] might imply you’re about to go off the Biblical name deep end. You can’t exactly follow [name]Lazarus[/name] up with [name]Michael[/name] or [name]John[/name].
Since you’re going with [name]Lazarus[/name] I assumed you liked unusual and seeing your other names I’m surprised
I agree with agirlinred, [name]Lazarus[/name] is a doozy next to [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], and [name]Nathan[/name]. Maybe make [name]Lazarus[/name] the middle name? If not, if you have another child the name would need to be a showstopper like [name]Lazarus[/name].
I’m curious, what nn would you use for [name]Lazarus[/name]?
Also, do you plan on using Biblical names if you have future daughters?
[name]Cris[/name]
[name]How[/name] about [name]Zacchaeus[/name] or [name]Mordecai[/name]? Is that off the deep end enough? Or does it need to be Malchi-[name]Shua[/name]? or Methusala? Seriously, here is a list of Bible names taken in my family: [name]Isaiah[/name], [name]Evan[/name], [name]Thomas[/name] (x3), [name]Samuel[/name], [name]David[/name], [name]Josiah[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Jesse[/name], [name]Luke[/name], [name]Joel[/name], [name]Malachi[/name], [name]John[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Levi[/name], [name]Judah[/name], [name]John[/name]-[name]Mark[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Adam[/name], [name]James[/name] (x3), [name]Joshua[/name] (x2), [name]Daniel[/name] (x3), [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Jared[/name], [name]Andrew[/name], [name]Silas[/name], and I’m sure I missed someone…and this is just the boys. So, do you have any more suggestions?
RE: nick name for [name]Lazarus[/name]…Laz? But only to quickly get his attention. We would probably call him [name]Lazarus[/name]…also, We have 3 boys already and if we ever did have a girl…Bible names are out!!!
I agree with what others have said – [name]Lazarus[/name] is crazy out there compared to your other boys’ names. I like these Biblical names better for your sibset.
[name]Abel[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Simeon[/name]
[name]Asa[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Ephraim[/name]
[name]Jabez[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
Malachai
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Moses[/name]
Also, ‘[name]Lazarus[/name]’ is derived from [name]Eleazar[/name], which seems a lot more usable to me.
Three other Biblical names that are not too ‘out there’ are [name]Asher[/name], [name]Jeremiah[/name], and good ol’ [name]Timothy[/name]…
I love [name]Lazarus[/name]! And honestly, alot of ppl won’t even be familiar with the biblical connotations, let alone think their negative (which I had never seen them as negative). It’s great to see you going outside the Bible name box-my dh and I are considering [name]Moses[/name] for our little one.
I went to high school with a girl who just had her second son and named him [name]Moses[/name]. [name]Malachi[/name] and [name]Moses[/name].
Here’s some more biblical names for your consideration that aren’t too out there, but are sort of around the same area as [name]Lazarus[/name] (which I still like):
(I don’t know the Bible too well, so if any of these have negative meanings sorry ^_^)
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Asa[/name]
[name]Bartholomew[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]Enoch[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Titus[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Boaz[/name]
[name]Saul[/name]
[name]Canaan[/name]
[name]Abel[/name]
[name]Absalom[/name]
[name]Ariel[/name]
Azarel
[name]Barnabas[/name]
[name]Cornelius[/name]
[name]Ebenezer[/name]
Jairus
[name]Jericho[/name]
[name]Nicodemus[/name] (love this one)
[name]Obadiah[/name] (met a boy with this name not long ago)
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Zachariah[/name]
Zebadiah
[name]Zebedee[/name]
[name]Zebulon[/name] (went to high school with a guy by this name)
[name]Zephaniah[/name] – or just Zephan (another member has a son named Zephan)
[name]Zion[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] does stand out next to your other boys names. I can’t really picture someone in real life named [name]Lazarus[/name]. It would make a cool and unexpected MN.
Maybe something like…
[name]Noah[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Jericho[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Micah[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Ruben[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Seth[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Evan[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] is fine it’s just that some people like sibling names to relate. Yours are all biblical but they aren’t the same style.
In high school my friend’s mom had a baby, the sibset was [name]Natasha[/name], [name]Jermaine[/name], [name]Rochelle[/name], and…[name]Kyle[/name]. The common reaction was “Where on [name]Earth[/name] did [name]Kyle[/name] come from?” Your sibset would get the same response.
If you don’t mind those kinds of reactions then go for it.
I hope you hang in there and use [name]Lazarus[/name]…I really like it. I’d love to meet a little [name]Lazarus[/name]. (And a little [name]Moses[/name], mrs. bmp and dantea!) It is unexpected next to [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Nathan[/name], though I had no idea [name]Jonah[/name] was as popular as it is until I searched it on here. Some posters think [name]Lazarus[/name] will often cause surprise when you introduce all four boys, so that is something to consider. Perhaps you could try it out on a few family members and friends to get an idea of the reactions of the people close to you. Best wishes!
P.S. RE your [name]Zacchaeus[/name] or [name]Mordecai[/name] post…how about Jezreel? I’m liking it lately, but it’s certainly off the Biblical deep end.
