My husband prefers the name Ian, I prefer Jonah. Our last name is Allen, and I just don’t know if I love the sound of Ian Allen. Thoughts?
I love the name [name_m]Ian[/name_m]! I think it totally works.
I like both names a lot, but in this case, [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] is way better. [name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] sounds like an abbreviated form of [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m].
I told my husband that it sounded too close to the furniture store. He insisted no one would think that. I feel vindicated
And right you are! Tons and tons of people of a certain age anyway will think of the furniture store and a lot will also think about the [name_m]Vermont[/name_m] hero of the same name. Plus [name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] sounds funny to me.
[name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] sounds peculiar to me too.
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] is a strong and sensitive name in my books. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it
Unfortunately [name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] doesn’t sound good, way too repetitive. So I have to vote for [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]. But I also can’t help but think it’s not fair to pick a name that you’re not both totally onboard with. Maybe you should try to find something totally new that you both love. [name_m]Just[/name_m] one suggestion is [name_m]Jovian[/name_m] which reminds me of both [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m].
Thanks for the suggestion! We are trying to pick a name inspired by a family name. We both really like Jonah. My husband mostly prefers Ian because it’s a family name from his side, and Jonah is from my side.
Much prefer [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] as a name and it sounds better with [name_m]Allen[/name_m]
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u] is nice and I do think it sounds better with [name_m]Allen[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought - [name_u]Julian[/name_u] nn [name_m]Ian[/name_m].
I LOVE [name_m]Ian[/name_m]
to me, [name_m]Ian[/name_m] is too dated, but not dated enough to make a comeback any time soon! so my vote goes to [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]!
I love [name_m]Ian[/name_m], but not with [name_m]Allen[/name_m]. I love [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] and it sounds good with [name_m]Allen[/name_m].
I actually kinda like the slight singsong of [name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m]. To me it actually sounds better than [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m], because the last syllable of [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] and first syllable of [name_m]Allen[/name_m] run into each other too much and I have to pronounce the name with a glottal stop (think the ‘sound’ in the middle of ‘uh-oh’) between the first and last names.
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] sounds the best, flows well.
[name_m]Ian[/name_m] is just as sweet, but I don’t think it pairs well with [name_m]Allen[/name_m]. That’s alot of similar sounding vowels together.
I also love [name_m]Ian[/name_m], but with [name_m]Allen[/name_m], it’s a bit too repetitive. [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] is great!
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Ian[/name_m] and [name_m]Allen[/name_m] separately, but maybe not together. Though [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] has the -a a- issue.
[name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] automatically makes me think of [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m]. my vote is for [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]!
ian allens flow is not the best so jonah gets my vote ! but in general, i prefer ian to jonah.
I much prefer [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] with your last name and in general.
