[name_f]Addy[/name_f] is my favourite of the two spellings but I think [name_f]Addy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is adorable too.
No nickname needed
My favorite is [name_f]Addie[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] would be cute together although [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are similar, they aren’t too close to me.
[name_f]Della[/name_f] is very sweet; I’m not big on [name_f]Addie[/name_f] as I automatically link it to [name_u]Addison[/name_u] which isn’t a name I like very much. [name_f]Della[/name_f] has that vintage charm about it which I adore and which represents the vibe of the full name more than [name_f]Addie[/name_f], in my opinion that is!
[name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are also quite close in sound which might be confusing when you call for one of them in another room.
Well since [name_f]Addie[/name_f]/[name_f]Addy[/name_f] is close to both [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and daddy, I’ll vote [name_f]Della[/name_f]. [name_f]Della[/name_f] will also stand out a lot more at school, since [name_f]Addie[/name_f] has become more popular. [name_f]Della[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is lovely too.
I agree. I think [name_f]Addie[/name_f] does make people assume her name is [name_u]Addison[/name_u], which isn’t something I necessarily want for her. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] do have that similar sound, although I guess this won’t be a problem if/when we call her brother [name_u]Theo[/name_u] or Ted. Hmmm, food for thought. Thank you xx
Thank you. I also prefer [name_f]Della[/name_f], personally. I guess I’m just curious to hear other people’s thoughts, as DH and I can’t seem to agree. I guess maybe she will have to get used to two nicknames. [name_f]Della[/name_f] could be my pet name for her ” Maybe the spelling [name_f]Addie[/name_f] will be the better option than [name_f]Addy[/name_f], seeing as [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] ends in y. Plus, we have a local paper nicknamed the [name_f]Addy[/name_f] which my mum was quick to point out
I love [name_f]Della[/name_f]! [name_f]Addie[/name_f] I think is really close to [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. It’s also nice, it’s just so much more expected and potentially confusing. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Lina[/name_f] could also work.
I’d go with [name_f]Lina[/name_f], myself! A sweet sounding name on its own, plus it sounds nothing like [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
I much prefer [name_f]Della[/name_f]. [name_f]Addy[/name_f]/[name_f]Addie[/name_f] sounds like it’s short for [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and sounds very similar to [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
I don’t prefer a nickname for [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], I like it as a full name. If I had to choose between [name_f]Addy[/name_f] and [name_f]Addie[/name_f] I much prefer [name_f]Addie[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Addie[/name_f]…it’s so sweet! Definitely prefer this spelling, [name_f]Addy[/name_f] looks like [name_u]Andy[/name_u], which is not a name I like very much.
Wow! Thanks for all the feedback! The poll results reflect mine and my husband’s thoughts exactly…we’re split down the middle
We also prefer [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] as a full name and that is what she normally gets called, but with her brother reaching talking age, a NN is bound to appear. It will be interesting to see how [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] decides to say her name when he eventually does get there. I’m also finding that more family and friends have starting giving her a NN. They are either calling her [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f] or [name_m]Ad[/name_m]. This is only every now and then though.
I really love the suggestion of [name_f]Lina[/name_f], but we pronounce her the “American” way, [name_m]Add[/name_m]-a-line, as opposed to the “[name_m]French[/name_m]” way, [name_m]Add[/name_m]-a-leen. So [name_f]Lina[/name_f] doesn’t really fit for her unfortunately.
I guess I’ll continue calling her [name_f]Della[/name_f] and DH will call her [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. I particularly love [name_f]Della[/name_f] because it’s a bit different and doesn’t make you assume her name is [name_u]Addison[/name_u], as the NN [name_f]Addie[/name_f] does.
Her great grandmother also calls her “[name_f]Della[/name_f]-line”, purely because her think Maltese accent doesn’t allow her to say her name any other way. I think it’s quite endearing and a nice story to tell [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] when she’s older.
Anyway, enough of my waffling. Thanks everyone xxx
I chose [name_f]Della[/name_f] because [name_f]Della[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] sound so cute together, since that’s what little brother will eventually be called.
[name_f]Delly[/name_f], [name_f]Dellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
Hmm, I don’t know that a nickname is all that needed. You’d be surprised at the adorable things he might end up calling her based on her full name. My daughter [name_f]Viola[/name_f] until this day calls [name_f]Noor[/name_f] (a name that I thought would never need a nickname) [name_f]Nan[/name_f] or sometimes Ninny. It may make no sense, but it’s spontaneous and something special they bonded over. On another note, I much prefer [name_f]Addie[/name_f] or [name_f]Addy[/name_f]. You’d be surprised at how Ls can be hard for the little ones to pronounce, well, at least for mine.
[name_f]Della[/name_f] gets my vote. It’s my preferred nickname for [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Addy[/name_f]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is too close for my likes. I also like [name_f]Delle[/name_f] or [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as a nickname.
It doesn’t really match the original name much, but I think [name_f]Lina[/name_f] (pronounced either like line-ah or [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na) is pretty cool. [name_f]Della[/name_f] would be my choice from your actual options. I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. I swear that every 3rd girl under 5 that I know has the nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f].
