If you are Irish, have Irish descent, are born or grew up in Ireland, have Irish family, etc, or have any emotional, familiar, or national connection to it, Niamh
Otherwise, Neve
Someone in my family married someone with this name. It wasn’t until Nameberry did I realize that [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] wasn’t pronounced like “Name” [name_f]Neve[/name_f] I think would give you the better chance at others saying the name correctly.
For ease of use, I would go with [name_f]Neve[/name_f] in the US. It’s a beautiful name in either spelling!
i think neve would be much easier to wear in the US! also, it’s a valid italian spelling, so it works!
[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]. The name is so much more beautiful in it’s original, un-anglicised form
I live in the US and I have a classmate named [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] (with this spelling). It took out teacher a while to catch onto her spelling and pronunciation, but it worked out in time! I highly prefer the un-anglicized version of the name (for this pronunciation)!
[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]. Some people might mispronounce it as NEE-ə, but it’s an easy correction to make.
I would spell it [name_f]Neve[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] fully knowing [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is supposed to be “neev” I still think/say nye-am instinctively every time I see it.
I don’t think you have to be [name_u]Irish[/name_u] or of [name_u]Irish[/name_u] descent to use a name’s spelling, especially when it’s the correct one.
I am not (part) [name_u]Irish[/name_u] or have any connection, by being born there / growing up here / family / emotional stuff or anything to [name_u]Ireland[/name_u], but not sure if [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is to be used as a name by non-Irish people respectful for [name_u]Irish[/name_u] culture or if people might be confused that she has connections to it.
