Poppy Rose? Too much flower?

We are a family of redheads, and our last name is a very irish O’ name. [name_f]My[/name_f] boys are…

[name_m]Allan[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] [name_u]Tully[/name_u]
[name_u]Grady[/name_u] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]

First names are all Irish names that have a strong meaning and are what I consider different without being weird. I also prefer names that aren’t very popular, although [name_m]Declan[/name_m] has moved up on the list, he was in the 300’s when I picked it. Middle names all honor a deceased relative and they all have 2 syllable first and middle names on purpose. I have always wanted to use my middle name ([name_f]Rose[/name_f]) for a girl and my grandmother who’s middle name was also [name_f]Rose[/name_f] died a few years ago so its perfect. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], and its so cute for a red head, which our future daughter will be, but I don’t know if they flow… it sounds good and weird to me at the same time… insights?

I think it’s too much. What about using [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] with a nn of [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]? Or you could use a variant of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a fn-- [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamond[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Roisin[/name_f], etc. Or since [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] could reference the color red, what about [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]?

I adore [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but its too popular for me :frowning: Its actually one of my [name_m]FAVORITE[/name_m] girl names and can be shortened, NN to [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. But my first name is [name_f]Brittney[/name_f] so I grew up with 20 other Brittneys (misc spellings) in each grade :frowning: I have a bunch of other first name options too, but all of them go with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]… Theres one other middle name option that we like for a girl, [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. I don’t like the double Y ending of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (but [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] doesn’t have the same ending sound) and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] doesn’t really go [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Not really going for double red or anything like that, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is only in the running because of its familial connection. But yes, it does sort of sound like a bit much. Other girl name options are…
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (but my cousins LO is [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and may also have [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a middle name :/)

I love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. It’s such a cute and memorable combo! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is usually considered a filler middle, but I think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] makes it more floral instead. I could see this working out well on a little russet haired beauty.

[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a lovely name!

I think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely- I wouldn’t worry about it being too flowery.

I think its very usable and cute!

thank you for your responses  its good to know that others think its cute too. i personally flip flop on liking it and thinking its too much, lol

Considering your sons’ names, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is waaaay too cutesy. I would suggest looking for a P name to shorten to [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?

A bouquet of varying flowers is gorgeous. A name with two floral names can be also. I think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is adorable and full of spunk.

I think it’s too much. Plus, I’m a little biased, because I really don’t like the name [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I type it, I type Poopy. And it’s way too cutesy for me. But if it’s the name you like, try choosing a different middle name.
