Hello! I’m just wondering what is a popular baby name(s) that you absolutely HATE and why?
I don’t have a good reason for any of these, but here are some popular names that I dislike:
- Nora/Norah
- virtue names like hope, faith, destiny
- any version of “christ” ex: christy, christina
- renee
- esme
- emilia (this spelling just bugs me)
- “eigh” or "ee"names ex: mackenzeigh, oaklee, kyleigh, paislee
No hate if you love these names or are named this, this is just my opinion !
I actually have a LOT that I hate!
• [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - Something about that names puts it in the same category as any name ending in -[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or -[name_u]Leigh[/name_u] and I despise those with a passion
• [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - Reminds me of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] from Fault in our Stars and the whole era was a mess for my generation personally!
• [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] - I hate the name! From personal experience people tend to chose it in association with violence! And it just doesn’t do the actual meaning justice (I wonder if this is controversial to say?)
• [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - Too popular for both a middle and a first name, can’t enjoy it as everybody else can
•[name_u]Marie[/name_u]/Rose - For middle names to be exact! Their awfully used by everybody that it’s become a meme
• Zealand/Arizona - [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t see the appeal as other locations names like [name_u]Dallas[/name_u] or even [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u]! Find there’s other better place names than their recent popularity!
There’s probably more! But I can’t think of! Some of these names go wonderful with other parents but for me I know I will be vetoing them when I end up with kids!
Virtue names are at the top of the list. I can’t stand [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Patience[/name_f], or [name_f]Prudence[/name_f].
[name_u]Liam[/name_u] - don’t get it, it’s pretty bland. Although, it’s a nice nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m].
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - there are so many other pretty -bella names out there. Why choose the most common? Also don’t like the nickname [name_u]Izzy[/name_u].
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - bland
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - don’t know why, just don’t like it
[name_u]Jackson[/name_u] - boring
[name_u]Aiden[/name_u] - see [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - too old fashion for me
Hate is a strong word and I wouldn’t say I feel that way about any of these but some popular names I dislike (and strongly dislike in some cases*) are:
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]*
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Hailey[/name_f]
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]
[name_u]Paisley[/name_u]*
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_u]Addison[/name_u]*
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]*
[name_f]Neveah[/name_f]*
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
[name_u]Nova[/name_u]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaylee[/name_f]*
[name_f]Brielle[/name_f]*
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Kayla[/name_f]*
[name_u]Blakely[/name_u]/Lakely* (I do feel pretty strongly about these)
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
[name_u]Ryker[/name_u]
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]*
[name_u]Landon[/name_u]*
[name_u]Nolan[/name_u]
[name_u]Jackson[/name_u]/Jaxon/Jaxson ([name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] though)
[name_u]Grayson[/name_u]*
[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]*
[name_u]Brayden[/name_u]*
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]*
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_m]Bryson[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
Laken*
Ones like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] etc. I understand the appeal of, they just don’t do anything for me for whatever reason or seem dated/fusty ([name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f]) because of personal associations. They’re in an extremely different category for me to ones like [name_u]Brayden[/name_u], [name_f]Neveah[/name_f], [name_u]Blakely[/name_u] etc.
I don’t hate any names, but I dislike a few popular ones for no great reason: [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m].
they’re perfectly fine names, I just really don’t like them. there might be some synesthesia involved, because [name_f]Claire[/name_f] tastes like thinly shaved soap to me
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - It’s a fruit, not a name. Also the nicknames [name_u]Clem[/name_u]/Clemmie sound like clam (chowder) and clammy.
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] too clunky, never liked it
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u] - Very old lady name, can’t see the appeal at all.
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] - Too clunky, such a mouthful and hearing the the nn [name_m]Vero[/name_m] is like hearing nails scratching on a chalkboard
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] / [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - I hate the nickname [name_f]Betty[/name_f] so it ruins the entire name for me
These are a bit separate as they’re ruined due to language association.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - Egg white in Spanish
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - Has the word for penis in Spanish in it
Boys: [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
Girls: [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
None of these are to be held against the names - everyone has different tastes!
However -
[name_u]Liam[/name_u]
[name_f]Brielle[/name_f]
Any boys’ name beginning with B (including, but not limited to, [name_u]Bennett[/name_u], [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] and [name_u]Bentley[/name_u])
[name_m]Dax[/name_m] / [name_m]Jax[/name_m]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] ([name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is cute though)
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_u]Genesis[/name_u]
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]
[name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyla[/name_f]
[name_u]Carter[/name_u]
I am someone who doesn’t like most popular names. Once a name is repeated over and over many times by many people it loses all its likability for me. The ones I dislike most:
Girls-
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (this one is based on sound not just on the fact that it’s somehow so popular)
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] (Sounds SO bitter)
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
Boys-
[name_u]Liam[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Aiden[/name_u]/Cayden/Jayden
MAtthew
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
I could go on and on honestly
I don’t hate the names themselves, but I hate when people swap out vowels for “y”. It’s just an incorrect use of “y” and it bothers me so much. “Y” is not a vowel. It is only used in place of a vowel when there are no others in the words. So swapping out “i” or “e” for “y” is incorrect and it will always look wrong to me.
For example, [name_u]Rylee[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Riley[/name_u] or [name_u]Ayden[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Aiden[/name_u].The “i” and “e” are vowels, the “y” is a consonant.
There are names where it works, because the root words do have “y” as the vowel. Like [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] or [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]. In these names, using Skilar or [name_f]Brooklin[/name_f] would be incorrect because it contradicts the root words.
I know this is a popular trend, and maybe I’m just being “snobbish” but I don’t see a reason to ruin a perfectly good name with incorrect grammar.
I hate the whole “ley/leigh/lie/lee” name fad. In fact, I have a “ley” name, and I hate it. The only ones I can get behind are [name_u]Huxley[/name_u] and [name_f]Loxley[/name_f], because they feel less done-to-death.
I definitely don’t hate it, but I simply do not vibe with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
I really don’t like names that add an “h” when it’s not necessary.
I prefer Sara to Sarah, Layla to Laylah, Ava to Avah, etc.
I also don’t like Jaxson. I know Jackson and Jack are very common right now, but I would still choose one of those over Jax.
I also dislike hyphenated names, like Mary-Kate. I know it’s popular in Southern US, but it’s not my style. Same with adding “-lynn” or “-lee” to a name that doesn’t need it.
Iris
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
All the trendy -lynn names ([name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], etc)
