So, SJ Strum’s most recent video included a list of favourite names according to teenagers aka baby namers of the future and I wanted to see what we thought. This list is purely girls names but she’s promised a boys list in the future.
What do we think? A couple have definitely been on my own list for years ([name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Colette[/name_f]) and there are a couple there I would consider.
I think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] definitely have potential! [name_u]Briar[/name_u], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and [name_f]Colette[/name_f], too.
Aurora is already quite popular where I live, so I actually see it fading out more in the future as people become tired of it. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], I think, is beginning to feel pretty dated atm, but it hasn’t yet faded out completely – I think it will take some time for it to fall out of favor and then even more time to gain favor again, but who knows?
The others…I’m not sure on those. They seem to require a certain taste, and I have a hard time seeing them becoming universal favorites. But it’s possible, I suppose.
I see a rise in names relating to songs for [name_f]Gen[/name_f] Z namers. Basing this purely off what I’ve heard teenagers (non namenerds) love!
These may include:
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
Caroline
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] (Definitely see this one rising)
[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]
[name_f]Jolene[/name_f] (Might make a comeback!)
Also, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
100% [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. You’re very right on that one.
This might be crazy to say, but I wouldn’t be surprised if [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] makes top 5, and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] top 15.
I just finished watching the video! Never heard of Winneka before but kind of love it now.
I think that
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] are definitely going to become more popular
[name_u]Willow[/name_u] will definitely continue to rise and maybe even reach top 5??
Whenever names came up in conversations everyone seemed to love [name_u]Willow[/name_u], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
Definitely agree with [name_f]Stella[/name_f]! Names that feature in songs are really popular favourites among [name_f]Gen[/name_f] Z.
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is definitely one that is going to rise, I remember everybody over social media saying that they would name their future daughter [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] after the Lumineers song. Thats whats happening with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] right now actually, I can see it becoming one of the top names.
I also see alot of [name_u]Briar[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. This makes me think shorter, natural names may be some of the more popular names.
I can definitely see a lot of those with huge potential, many of them are heard often already where I live, especially [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
Commonly masculine names such as [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] surely also have potential to grow popular for girls, maybe gender-bender names will be used even more often?
I’m not sure about Winneka, I’ve actually only ever heard of Winnika!
It’s usually those names already popular on here that hit the charts later on
I’ve always adored the names [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] but felt [name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] was too old and [name_f]Winona[/name_f] not quite my style. Winneka is absolutely STUNNNG! I’m really completely smitten. I would love to meet a little baby [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]/Winn named Winneka
Some I’ve loved for a long time or have recently seen and liked quite a lot are Selene (Luna is also our number 1 choice), Eliza, Aurora, Briar, and Freya. Cecily and Natalie are nice but feel a little too old school and just not my style. Eliza is one I fell in love after Eliza Thornberry and as an alternative to Elizabeth. I just adore that it’s so spunky yet feminine. Briar is one I’ve really fallen in love with more recently. It’s got such a sharp, distinct sound but feels like a natural successor to names like Parker, Harper, Sailor and Sawyer. I could see it, Juniper, Piper, and others like it taking their places.
Juliet and Colette are gorgeous but again not my style. When it comes to French names I prefer Margo, Madeleine, Amelie, Genevieve, and Vivienne. I mostly just tend to prefer Spanish, Italian or Greek names to French ones, but Juliet and Colette are still wonderful choices.
I hated Prairie at first. But I think reminding myself that it’s a unique name that the right couple could really make shine makes me kinda love it. I once knew a girl named Cedar who just really fit her name and I feel like Prairie is a similar kinda name, so I could definitely see it working for the right couple.
By contrast, despite its rising popularity, I really dislike Elliot on a girl. To me it’s always been a boy name (but I’m really picky when it comes to boy names on girls and dislike most of them). I do absolutely LOVE the other El names she mentioned - Elowen, Eleanor, and Evelyn are all quite lovely and have been on my list at one point or another.
I could see a few of these becoming popular like [name_f]Selene[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_u]Briar[/name_u], and [name_f]Freya[/name_f].
Winneka and [name_u]Prairie[/name_u] feel a bit out there. I know when I was a teenager I loved a lot of names that are no longer on my list. These might fall into that category. Liking them at a certain age and then sliding off your list as you go.
100% agree with those who said that different names from songs like [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] will be very popular in the future. And I think that what SJ said about longer or more formal versions of names will come back in to style when we have kids in 10/15 years.
Names that we already can see are coming back in to style like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and those types of names that [name_f]Gen[/name_f] Z likes will almost be overused when we are older, so names with similar vibes will rise instead. Like [name_f]Athena[/name_f] or [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
Honestly absolutely love SJ Strum baby name videos she’s great!
I really loved the names the teenagers were loving my favourites were [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Selene[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Colette[/name_f] I think these are really pretty. I definitely agree that [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] will become super popular I think she could be a top 10 name for sure.
