I find I’m drawn to the Greek and Latin names, the only problem is I don’t want the names tied to a God or [name_f]Goddess[/name_f], are there any nice names out there that don’t derive from a God or [name_f]Goddess[/name_f]?
Definitely. Many latin words are used as names. Here are a few off the top of my head:
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] – “moon” in many languages, actually.
[name_f]Maris[/name_f] – “of the sea”
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] – “star”
[name_f]Amia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
Greek: Lots of greek flower names end in “antha” or “anthe”. There are a ton of Greek names not related to gods and goddesses. It might be useful to just search “greek names” on here.

[name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that was helpful, it was fun for me. I love Greek/Latin names!

I’ve been crushin’ on [name_f]Delta[/name_f] lately. I would also recommend browsing 20000-names.com, they have a large variety separated by origin :).
[name_f]Medora[/name_f] and [name_f]Valeria[/name_f] are beautiful! Great picks, myosotis.
[name_f]Myra[/name_f]
[name_f]Mira[/name_f]
Suggestion: Look up the names of all the moons in the solar system. They all (except for Uranus which I think uses Shakesphere) have names from classical Greek mytholohy, some usable and some not:
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f]
[name_u]Dione[/name_u]
[name_f]Callisto[/name_f]
[name_f]Io[/name_f]
[name_f]Leda[/name_f]
Other nices ones which really depend on your style:
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] /[name_f]Alexandria[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]
And then of course there is a wonderful user list right here on Nameberry:
Aym - I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Lux[/name_f] and actually have them on my list already I really like [name_f]Maris[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f], and [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. I have tried typing Greek names on here, there is just so many that pop up I don’t know which to look at!
Myosotis - I loved a lot of your list. The ones that I kept were Phandre, [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], [name_f]Xenia[/name_f], [name_f]Isaura[/name_f], [name_f]Valeria[/name_f], [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], and [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]. I adored [name_f]Medora[/name_f], and the meaning is wonderful!
Ribbons and Soldiers - Thank you for the clear up on [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f], it’s a beautiful name, I just don’t think I would use it. I really liked [name_f]Pelagia[/name_f] and Vasiliki from your suggestions.
Hardertobreathe - Wow, your list is so long! I’ll have to look up some, I think [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] is a [name_f]Goddess[/name_f]? I could be wrong. I really like [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], it’s always been one of my favorite names, [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is another lovely form. I also like [name_f]Amarantha[/name_f], [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f], Xylia, and Calluna.
Claraoswinoswald - [name_f]Delta[/name_f] is lovely, and thank you for the site, I’ll have up that!
Loudlysilent - I love [name_f]Myra[/name_f] and [name_f]Mira[/name_f], though I do like the meaning of [name_f]Mira[/name_f] a bit more
Moxielove - Hm, never thought of that, I’ll definitely look that up, thanks for the suggestion! [name_f]Io[/name_f] is beautiful, I just don’t necessarily care for her story. [name_f]Leda[/name_f] is a wonderful name. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] are lovely as well.
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] is not a [name_f]Goddess[/name_f], but a [name_f]Princess[/name_f] from mythology. She falls in love with [name_m]Theseus[/name_m]. [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is a muse, and there is of course the myth of [name_f]Leda[/name_f] and the Swan.
my Greek Girl list:
[name_u]Damaris[/name_u], [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f], [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], [name_f]Annis[/name_f], [name_f]Arcadia[/name_f], [name_f]Clio[/name_f], [name_f]Demi[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthia[/name_f] and I
pronounce this either as ZANthia or exZANthia, derived from the name [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] ( [name_f]Zanthe[/name_f] )
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_u]Galen[/name_u], [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
Oh, and also [name_f]Io[/name_f] was a [name_f]Princess[/name_f] who was in love with [name_m]Zeus[/name_m], and was turned into a cow by [name_f]Hera[/name_f].
