I’ve always dreamed of having twins and enjoy coming up with name possibilities. Twins run in my family (my mom and grandma are both part of G/G twin sets), so there’s a chance this could actually happen someday!
On my dad’s side, my great grandma was [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] and her twin sister was [name_f]Lois[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I love the idea of honoring my granny, but she really hated her name. She always said she got the short end of the stick between her and her sister. So I have come up with this idea of naming twins [name_f]Luna[/name_f] (similar in sound to [name_f]Lena[/name_f]) and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (same ending as [name_f]Lois[/name_f] and Granny had a HUGE iris bed all the time I knew her). The names both have 4 letters and they’re both goddess names AND they both have a connection to my granny!
I like that they don’t sound similar at all though. My mom and her twin are [name_u]Sheron[/name_u] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] and [name_f]Karen[/name_f] [name_f]Fay[/name_f], and my grandma is [name_f]Velma[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] and her twin was [name_f]Thelma[/name_f] [name_u]Gay[/name_u]. I refuse to give twins names that sound anything alike!
I have to agree, your mum and her twin, and grandmother and her twin have very matched sets! I’m sure if I was a [name_f]Velma[/name_f] with a twin named [name_f]Thelma[/name_f], I would definitely be doing a double take when one of our names were called, haha.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are wonderful What about a flower middle for [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and a celestial/astrology one for [name_f]Iris[/name_f]? Then they would match without it being obvious.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Callisto[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Gardenia[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Titania[/name_f]
You’re right about the confusing part, lawsonhaley. In fact both sets of twins ended up not going by their real names, but really crazy nicknames. My mom is WooWoo, her twin is Tinky, and their mom is Toad. I know my grandma’s twin had a nickname too, but I don’t know that I’ve ever been told what it was. She passed away before I was born. But anyway, they went by these names all through childhood and were even called by them in school by their teachers!
I love your idea of giving [name_f]Luna[/name_f] a flower middle name and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] a celestial middle name! [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] caught my attention because my husband’s name is [name_m]Brian[/name_m]. I really like [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] with [name_f]Luna[/name_f] too. I also thought about [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]. I thought [name_f]Aster[/name_f] would be cool since [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is the name of a flower, but means “rainbow” and [name_f]Aster[/name_f] is the name of a flower, but means “star”. With [name_f]Iris[/name_f] I really like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Callisto[/name_f], and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. Thanks again!
I like [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as sisters to [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] as well, apollonia. I think they all have a fantasy feel to them which makes me very happy. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is pretty, but my name is [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I felt narcissistic enough giving [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] my name (it was my hubby’s idea which is the only reason I agreed to it). I’d definitely feel narcissistic giving two daughters my name. I really like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] though! Thank you for the suggestions!
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are a nice pair. [name_f]Leda[/name_f] is another thought, or [name_f]Mila[/name_f] (as the other half of [name_f]Milena[/name_f]).
No offense to your mom, aunt, grandma, and great-aunt, but I’m glad rhyming names for twins are no longer in!
I really love the idea of [name_f]Leda[/name_f], emsky. Unfortunately, I have to also please my husband. lol I asked about [name_f]Leta[/name_f] when we were searching for names for our daughter, [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], and he wasn’t a fan. I thought it was a great idea though since it would be killing two birds with one stone. His mom’s name is [name_f]Letitia[/name_f].
And no offense taken! They know they’re awful. I often wonder why my grandma named her twin daughters matching names when she and her twin knew what it was like to grow up with names that sound so similar. I really think it was my grandpa’s idea, to be honest.
