To me, name variations can be annoying…and confusing. I’m talking about names that are only one or two letters apart, and almost sound exactly the same. (Some [name]DO[/name] sound exactly the same) For example, when you develop a love of the name [name]Camille[/name], you face a decision–[name]Camille[/name] or [name]Camilla[/name]? Or, maybe you have a crush on [name]Catherine[/name]…or [name]Katherine[/name].
Anyway, I want to hear your preference of various name variations. [name]Just[/name] state your favorite of each of the variations.
To the mscrabby, I could go either way with [name]Stephen[/name]/[name]Steven[/name]…but [name]Steven[/name] just seems better with the NN [name]Steve[/name]. And definitely [name]Michaela[/name], although I don’t really like either very much.
I think that [name]Stephen[/name] sounds better than [name]Steven[/name]…less dated…
But I like both of the [name]Michaela[/name] spellings…
I’m also stuck on [name]Ione[/name]/[name]Iona[/name], some people say that [name]Iona[/name] sounds like “I own ya” but I still love [name]Iona[/name].
And here’s something funny that another [name]Berry[/name] posted on anoher thread —that [name]Caterina[/name] sounded like a “[name]Cat[/name] Arena”
Nice additions mscrabby!
[name]Stephen[/name]/[name]Steven[/name] = My dh is [name]Stephen[/name], so I am biased. He does go by [name]Steve[/name], though.
[name]Mikayla[/name]/[name]Michaela[/name] = I’ve seen many other variations than this and I know a little girl who has a variation of this name, but I will always prefer [name]Michaela[/name], I think.
It’s funny, because in almost every case I think the second one is prettier but I don’t know if I’d use it in real life because it would be misspelled more often.
[name]Alexandra[/name]/[name]Alexandria[/name] - never seen the second used in real life, seems like it would be misspelled, but it’s prettier [name]Oscar[/name]/[name]Oskar[/name]? - with a k would be hard to pull off if you’re not Scandinavian [name]Violet[/name]/[name]Violetta[/name]? - though [name]Violetta[/name] is pretty, it also seems snobby to me
[name]Caterina[/name]/[name]Katarina[/name]? [name]Hanna[/name]/[name]Hannah[/name]? - I like both
[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name]? - I hate [name]Louise[/name], sounds low brow to me
[name]Carl[/name]/[name]Karl[/name]?
[name]Natalie[/name]/[name]Natalia[/name]? not mad about this name to begin with but I’d have to go with the a [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name]? K!
[name]Christina[/name]/[name]Kristina[/name]? though I hate this name on principle because I personally have known at least 3 dozen. There are just too bloody many.
[name]Alexandra[/name]/[name]Alexandria[/name]? - [name]Alexandria[/name], to me, is too tied to the place in [name]Egypt[/name]. [name]Oscar[/name]/[name]Oskar[/name]? - It looks too harsh with the K. [name]Violet[/name]/[name]Violetta[/name]? - [name]Violetta[/name] is too frilly.
[name]Caterina[/name]/[name]Katarina[/name]? - I actually prefer [name]Katrina[/name] to both.
[name]Hanna[/name]/[name]Hannah[/name]? - feels incomplete without the H.
[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name]? - I’m not fond of either. [name]Carl[/name]/[name]Karl[/name]? - Though I’ve no strong preference either way, I think I’d instinctively go for the C. [name]Natalie[/name]/[name]Natalia[/name]? - Though I don’t much care for either [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name]? - more spunky with the K. [name]Christina[/name]/[name]Kristina[/name]? - The K just looks off to me, but it’s lovely with the Ch.
[name]Juliet[/name]/[name]Juliette[/name]? - though I don’t much like the name, I’d go for the less frilly version [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Elisabeth[/name]
[name]Johnathon[/name]/[name]Jonathon[/name] - though I prefer it with an a at the end - [name]Jonathan[/name]. No H in it though. [name]Noah[/name]/[name]Noa[/name] - looks incomplete without the H. [name]Joseph[/name]/[name]Josef[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name] - I’m genuinely indecisive on this one, I flick between the two constantly which I prefer. [name]Love[/name] both spellings for the name. Right now, [name]Emilia[/name] edges it, mainly because it makes [name]Milly[/name] more of a natural nickname. [name]Thomas[/name]/[name]Tomas[/name] - looks softer with the H.
[name]Sara[/name]/[name]Sarah[/name] - I pronounce these differently and consider them different names. Sahr-uh vs Sair-uh.
[name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sophie[/name] - I’m biased, but I don’t like extra frill on a name, which is what [name]Sophia[/name] has.
Isabella/Isabelle/Isabel/Isobel - like Isabel and Isobel, but I think I’d lean for the former as I’d be inclined to pronounce the ‘o’ more in the latter. Lily/Lilly
Sylvie/Sylvia/Silvia - though I don’t much like the name
Florence/Flora Eleanor/Elinor Nora/Norah
Anne/Ann/Anna - love Anna, the others seem plain in comparison. Anne over Ann, though.
Lindsay/Lindsey - I really have no preference here at all. Ada/Adah - Never seen Adah and it looks so made up to me. Lila/Lilah - I don’t get all the extra h’s on the end. Jonah/Jonas - Jonas reminds me too much of the Jonas Brothers. Nathan/Nathaniel
Zac/Zach/Zack - Zach seems like the more natural way of shortening Zachary, but I pronounce it with a hard ch sound this spelling, so I think I’d go for Zac. Although Zack seems more a standalone spelling because of Jack so…I don’t know.
