[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all of you beautiful mums and mums-to-be out there! I’d just like to disclose that at this point in time, I’m not expecting. I do however, have a few queries.
Have any of you ladies gotten pregnant whilst using birth control? I know that nothing other than abstinence is 100% effective about pregnancy, and know that the risk is low whilst taking the pill, depo, or an implant.
I also realise that sometimes birth control can give you pregnancy-like symptoms, so I’m curious as to those of you that did become pregnant while using birth control, what made you decide to take a test?
I’m currently on Implanon and have been since [name_f]May[/name_f] 2015. I haven’t had a period since about [name_u]August[/name_u] 2015, but have spotted. I’ve never experienced any pregnancy symptoms whilst it has been inserted, though for the past month or so have been experiencing symptoms which are not normal for me such as tender breasts, enlarged breasts, gas, bloating, tiredness, backaches, headaches, urinating more frequently, and a nauseous feeling.
I am going to take a pregnancy test as soon as I can to put my mind at ease/plan how to handle the pregnancy - my partner and I aren’t trying as we are both still quite young, but we aren’t always preventing it either.
Anywho, this post is a big ramble now, but my point is: I’m interested in stories of how people found out they were pregnant when using birth control.
I got pregnant while I was on the pill. You’re right that a lot of the symptoms are pregnancy-like, and it took me a while to figure out I was pregnant. I’d only started taking a new brand of pills two months before I got pregnant. It gave me a multitude of annoying symptoms, like a headache, tender breasts and nausea. The reason I took a pregnancy test, eventually, was because my symptoms got worse, but most of all because I kept bleeding for over two weeks. I wasn’t losing a lot of blood, just a tiny amount, but it didn’t seem to stop and I got worried. I talked to my doctor about it and he told me I could be pregnant. It was a huge surprise, but looking back on it now, I think I could’ve known.
Thanks for your reply! I have a doctor’s appointment on [name_f]Monday[/name_f]. I think I’ve been in denial that it could be possible despite knowing that no birth control is 100% effective.
I guess it was the same for me, I was in denial. Maybe being in denial isn’t even a bad thing right for you right now, it’s better than panicking over something that may not even happen (yet). If it turns out you’re pregnant, there’s still plenty of time to get used to the idea and to prepare for everything. If you’re not pregnant, you’ll know soon enough, since you’re already planning to take a test and see your doctor, and your mind will be at ease.
Thank you for the compliment about my son’s name (I’ve written some more about it in the Berries in their twenties thread).
