Preppy Names

[name]Hi[/name] everyone!
I was just wondering which names you find to be really preppy? I seem to be drawn to pretty preppy names, so i was hoping you could add to the list! Here are my ideas:

BOYS
[name]Nathaniel[/name] (nn [name]Nate[/name])
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name] (nn [name]Ben[/name])

GIRLS
[name]Georgia[/name] (nn [name]Georgie[/name])
[name]Anne[/name] (nn [name]Annie[/name])
[name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Lottie[/name])
[name]Brooke[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you agree that those names sound preppy? [name]Love[/name] to hear feedback, and other preppy names that i know are out there!

Thanks!

[name]Nathaniel[/name] doesn’t sound very preppy to me, but [name]Nate[/name] does. I think it’s because I have a book and one of the main characters is named [name]Nate[/name], and he’s a jock. With [name]Henry[/name], I picture a kid who lives on a farm, same with [name]Georgia[/name]. [name]Charlotte[/name] is kind of an old-fashioned name, so I don’t really think it sounds very preppy to me. To me, “preppy” names are very common or girly names. [name]Brooke[/name] sounds a bit preppy to me, though. Others that come to mind:

[name]Brittany[/name] (I used to know a girl with this name who was preppy. She wasn’t very nice, though.)
[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Shelby[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name]
[name]Meagan[/name]
[name]Katie[/name]
[name]Nicole[/name]

BOYS:
[name]Tanner[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] nn [name]Mike[/name]
[name]William[/name] nn [name]Will[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]

I bet people have different definitions of preppy, but there ya go.

I’m from a very “preppy” area so there are certain names I associate with preppiness. Anything that reminds me of [name]Lily[/name] Pulitzer or my prep-school basically, lol. [name]Nate[/name] and [name]Bennett[/name] definitely seem preppy to me, [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] less so. [name]Georgia[/name] (and [name]Georgina[/name]) is somewhat preppy to me, [name]Anne[/name] can be preppy, [name]Charlotte[/name] is preppy and [name]Brooke[/name] is not. These are just my personal associations though. Some other preppy names:

Boys: [name]Parker[/name], [name]Chase[/name], [name]Beckett[/name], [name]Fletcher[/name], [name]Kip[/name] ([name]Christopher[/name]), [name]Davis[/name], [name]Devlin[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Griffith[/name], [name]Samson[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Tucker[/name], [name]Harrison[/name], [name]Trent[/name], [name]Ted[/name]/[name]Tad[/name], [name]Preston[/name], [name]Walker[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Easton[/name], [name]Mac[/name].

Girls: [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Aspen[/name], [name]Blanche[/name], [name]Carson[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Kit[/name], [name]Edie[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Leighton[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Maxine[/name], [name]Piper[/name], Tennley, [name]Willa[/name], [name]Blair[/name], [name]Martha[/name], [name]Vivian[/name].

Basically most last namey names make me think of preppiness. Also, I grew up a lot of very preppy people who had not so preppy names (like [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Mary[/name], [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Brian[/name]) who had very preppy nicknames which included:

[name]Cricket[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Bunny[/name] (I kid you not), [name]Clio[/name] (nn for [name]Claire[/name]), [name]Bess[/name], [name]Bea[/name], [name]Josie[/name], [name]Birdie[/name] (nn of [name]Roberta[/name]), Ebby and Barth (nn for [name]Bartholomew[/name]), [name]Ned[/name] and a male [name]Izzy[/name] ([name]Isaac[/name]).

[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Shelby[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name]
[name]Meagan[/name]
[name]Katie[/name]
[name]Nicole[/name]

BOYS:
[name]Tanner[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] nn [name]Mike[/name]
[name]William[/name] nn [name]Will[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]

I bet people have different definitions of preppy, but there ya go. :)[/quote]

Thanks for the reply!
Im really surprised you don’t find [name]Nate[/name] ([name]Nathaniel[/name]) and [name]Georgia[/name] as preppy, to me thats they are the "preppiest"names on the list! To me, they just seem like a names that has been passed down through generations and generations of an old money family, adding to that preppy feel! As for [name]Henry[/name], I see what you mean about being kind of country, but then again on the opposite end of the spectrum i could completely see a [name]Henry[/name] as being from a big city…maybe as a nick name to [name]Harrison[/name] though (which is another really preppy name in my opinion!)? YOur comment about charlotte being old-fashioned, hmmm maybe thats what I am classifying as preppy, again being handed down through various generations? Also, to me [name]Brooke[/name] screams preppy to me due to the “[name]Brooks[/name] Brothers” association!
I think your suggestions of [name]Meagan[/name] and [name]Katie[/name] seem really preppy! Great ideas! As well, all the boys names definitely hit the preppy spot, especially [name]Tanner[/name] and [name]William[/name]!

Thanks for your input!

Boys: [name]Stone[/name], [name]Reed[/name], [name]Graham[/name], and anything in -er ([name]Parker[/name], [name]Walker[/name], [name]Porter[/name], [name]Thatcher[/name]) and for some reason the [name]Schuyler[/name] is really preppy to me

Girls: Surnamey names like [name]Collins[/name] and classics like [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], etc

Amazing boys names suggestions! All seem so preppy, exactly what i like! Except maybe not [name]Devlin[/name], kind of reminds me of “deviled egg” or something like that! I especially love [name]Samson[/name], [name]Walker[/name], [name]Easton[/name], [name]Chase[/name] and [name]Beckett[/name]!
As for the girls, some seem more preppy then others to me. [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name] actually don’t seem to be hitting my preppy ideas, but [name]Pippa[/name] (nn for [name]Phillipa[/name] right?), [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Edie[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Martha[/name] are all perfect examples in my opinion! I still can’t get over how [name]Brooke[/name] doesnt seem preppy to you and the pp, as all i can think of is the “[name]Brooks[/name] Brothers” association!!
Those nicknames are also fantastic! I can’t believe i forgot about [name]Cricket[/name]! One of the most preppy people i know is called [name]Cricket[/name], what a fun name! I also love [name]Bea[/name], as a nickname to [name]Beatrice[/name]. But [name]Bea[/name] is much more preppy the the full [name]Beatrice[/name].

Thanks for your input!

Ooo [name]Thatcher[/name], thats a great one! I also agree with the -er association with preppiness, as long as there is an -er at the end of a name then tada! a preppy lovers dream!
I love love love the name [name]Collins[/name] on a girl, but i feel i may be to scared to ever use it! [name]Margaret[/name] i completely agree with, and see it as a preppy girls name. I just thought, could you use the nn [name]Rhett[/name] for [name]Margaret[/name]? I’m kind of liking it! Does [name]Rhett[/name] on a girl sound preppy?

Thanks for your input!

hi!
for girls, I think the names [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Sloane[/name] are very preppy. (and great). I would [name]LOVE[/name] to use [name]Sloane[/name] for our little girl (due in july) but it couldn’t be more ridiculous with our last name.

for boys I think of names like [name]Harrison[/name].

naming a human is NOT easy, is it? good luck!

Old School Preppy

Girls
[name]Buffy[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Missy[/name]
[name]Paige[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]

Boys
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Gray[/name]
[name]Jay[/name]
[name]Parker[/name]
[name]Reed[/name]
[name]Skip[/name]
[name]Tyler[/name]
[name]Wade[/name]
[name]Walker[/name]

plus, combos of two initials for boys, such as:

J.P.
T.J.

It seems like it’s very preppy to have a "J’ as one of the initials.

The preppy names I have encountered lately:

Girls
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Anne[/name] nn [name]Lizzie[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] nn [name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name] nn [name]Hattie[/name]
[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]

Boys
[name]Auden[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Grayson[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]William[/name]

[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Chase[/name]
[name]Thorne[/name]
[name]Ridge[/name]
[name]Carter[/name]
[name]Parker[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Walker[/name]

[name]Brooke[/name]
[name]Paige[/name]
[name]Ashley[/name]

Well, I’m from the South where the ultimate in preppiness is a family surname. The more unlikely the better. I know little boys named [name]Bowen[/name], Gates, [name]Rhodes[/name], and [name]Bishop[/name], and girls named [name]Gray[/name], [name]Judson[/name], and [name]Stewart[/name]. Here’s the thing, though. If you name your child an uber-WASPy surname without the family ties to back it up, you can wind up sounding less like a prepster and more like a social climber.

I think of names like [name]Amanda[/name], [name]Laura[/name], [name]Meredith[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Preston[/name], and [name]Blake[/name]

When I think preppy I think Prep-school, ivy-league, and old money families, which makes makes me think gossip girl.

[name]One[/name] character is [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]Archibald[/name] ‘[name]Nate[/name]’ which I think is just incredibly preppy.

Other characters:

[name]Blair[/name] [name]Cornelia[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] Batholomew ‘[name]Chuck[/name]’
[name]Serena[/name] [name]Celia[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Randolph[/name] ‘[name]Dan[/name]’
[name]Lillian[/name] [name]Celia[/name] ‘[name]Lily[/name]’
[name]Jennifer[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name] ‘[name]Jenny[/name]’
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Harold[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]

the only name on this I don’t find preppy is [name]Jennifer[/name]

  • Family surnames as first/middle names
  • normal-ish old school names like [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Richard[/name]
  • off-the-wall nicknames like Topsy
  • the nickname [name]Trey[/name] (I grew up with a lot of people who fall into this category, and is it just me or is every preppy boy who’s a III called [name]Trey[/name] at some point in his childhood?)
