Pretentious Names?

This is just for something I’m writing. What girls and boys names can you think of that give off kind of a snobby/trendy vibe? Not something too popular. (Maybe top 200+). Thanks!

[name]Jasper[/name] (even though I love this one)

I can’t think of any but I’m going to keep an eye on this thread since it’s very interesting to see what other people consider to be pretentious!

I agree with [name]Blair[/name] and [name]Serena[/name], good suggestions. I would add:

[name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name]

[name]Jackson[/name]

[name]Sheldon[/name]

Mind is drawing a blank now…

Snobby/Pretentious Vibe=

[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Gunner[/name]
[name]Alister[/name]

The first thing that comes to mind are long, rich sounding surnames. Hard to come up with an example off the top of my head. [name]Kingston[/name], Whitmark, Tipton, etc. Also some city names like [name]London[/name] or [name]Paris[/name] give off snobby vibes to me. (I am by no means saying that people that use these names are pretentious, that is just the feeling I get from the names.)

[name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]

This is so funny…my name and my sister’s name are both on here - I’ll have to tell my mother she has pretentious naming style!

I think maybe it depends what you’re ‘pretending’ to be. The names I listed are ones that I think pretentious Australian and British parents give their children when they’re trying to sound like upper-class Brits. I guess they’d be different to the names you might give your child if you were pretending to be, say, a wealthy Californian socialite?

[name]Adair[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] are the utmost pretentious names for me. I can’t stand either of them, unfortunately.

Also, [name]India[/name] on a girl is beyond pretentious to me if the child is not [name]Indian[/name] and has no ties to India.

Pretentious and Trendy…

Names ending in “ton” like [name]Remington[/name] and [name]Kensington[/name]

Names that just “sound” pretentious (eg. posh or upper class) but aren’t necessarily trendy…

Names I call “British Eccentric” like Sacheverall, [name]Peregrine[/name], [name]Nigel[/name], [name]Rupert[/name], [name]Piers[/name], [name]Alistair[/name], [name]Godfrey[/name], [name]Dunstan[/name], [name]Basil[/name], [name]Edgar[/name], [name]Algernon[/name], [name]Roderick[/name], [name]Percival[/name], [name]Tarquin[/name] (as an avid Anglophile, I quite like most of these names :)).

Girl names that seem especially frilly or fancy sometimes give off a snotty vibe to me. For example:

[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name]
[name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Stephanie[/name]
[name]Tiffany[/name]
[name]Savannah[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]

Names that start with V’s do, too. Not sure why.

[name]Vanessa[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]

Surnames or male names on girls. [name]Sloane[/name], [name]Sutton[/name], [name]Michael[/name], etc. I’ve known a lot of rich/pretentious/snobby people who gave those types of names to their daughters.

[name]Bartholomew[/name]
[name]Barnabas[/name]
[name]Emmanuel[/name]

[name]Jacqueline[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Leonora[/name]
