[name]Just[/name] wondering if any of you ladies can help my husband and I find a name we love. I am 32 weeks pregnant. [name]Baby[/name] girl due in about 6 weeks.
I want something pretty, fairly unique and sophisticated for when she is older - I love [name]Verity[/name] (Husband hates it) and [name]Fenella[/name] (Our cat is called it) so thats both of those names out.
My husband likes cooler names.
So far we have the following list -
[name]Indigo[/name] - both like this but getting the feeling that others dont and I’m easily swayed.
[name]Claudia[/name] - started as [name]Cordelia[/name] but morphed into [name]Claudia[/name] as [name]Cordelia[/name] seemed a bit stuffy.
[name]Georgia[/name] - I’m not a huge fan of popular names but I like [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Ann[/name].
[name]Magnolia[/name] - I love the magnolia tree so this name has a meaning but I dont like the nn [name]Maggie[/name].
[name]Faith[/name] - this we’ve both liked from the start but not loved.
[name]Annabella[/name] - I like this because it does the [name]Ann[/name] bit, [name]Bella[/name] is pretty cute plus we could pick a different 2nd name.
Velvetine (Which my husband made up but likes) - this is different, maybe too different.
Second name is [name]Ann[/name] except if [name]Ann[/name] is in the first name then we get to pick a different second name so maybe [name]Annabella[/name] [name]Wren[/name] or something.
So what do you think? Any other suggestions? [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Fenella[/name] are my fav and they dont tend to show on lists much. What I want is a name like that…that you have to see somewhere else rather than relying on a list.
We really are going round in circles and I’m getting pretty stressed!
Indigo - I really like Indigo! It might be a little more middle namey to me, but you’ve already got Ann.
Claudia - NMS. Feels dated to me, and I think of claws. I like Cordelia better, and you could call her Cora, Delia, Lia, etc. to cut the stuffiness.
Georgia - Love Georgia. I can’t really say how popular it is; it’s a classic in my book…
Magnolia - LOVE. I don’t think you have to go with Maggie. Try May/Mae, Nola or Lola, Nolie or Olie, Nolia, Lia or Lee, etc.
Faith - I don’t think this virtue name sings the way Verity does. Sort of plain to me.
Annabella - I confess I’m over the -bella’s. To me, this is more trendy/popular than Georgia. I don’t mind Amabel, but that misses the Ann connection…
Velvetine (Which my husband made up but likes) - As in the Rabbit? I think this is a no. Too close to Velveeta, too.
As far as incorporating Ann into a first name, what about Anneliese, Analia, Anais, Annora (related to Honor, so you could fit the virtue name into it…), Marianne or Marianna, Julianna/Juliana, or Georgiana (mixing Georgia and Ann?). I like plain Anna for a first name, too.
A few other suggestions…
Acacia, Azalea, Bryony, Camellia, Zinnia (unusual nature names like Magnolia)
Coralia/Coralie, Cassia, Clara, Carolina, Cecilia, Celia (as alternatives to Claudia and Cordelia)
Emmeline
Eliza
Helena
Lydia
Vera (instead of Verity)
Willa
Julia or Juliet (or Juliana/Julianna again)
India (maybe a little less edgy than Indigo?)
[name]Verity[/name]'s one of my favorite names! It’s a shame that your husband doesn’t like it. Perhaps he might like [name]Vera[/name] instead? Or [name]Verity[/name] with [name]Vera[/name] or [name]Vita[/name] as a nickname? I ilke [name]Fenella[/name] as well. Great nickname potential - I love Fen or [name]Nell[/name].
[name]Indigo[/name] - I sort of like this.
[name]Claudia[/name] - This is a perfectly fine name, but the ‘[name]Claud[/name]’ part always makes me think ‘clod’ so I can’t personally come around to it. I personally prefer [name]Cordelia[/name]. [name]Cordelia[/name] has a wealth of nickname possibilities that could perhaps help to make it feel less stuffy - [name]Cory[/name], [name]Cordy[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Delia[/name], [name]Della[/name], [name]Lia[/name], [name]Dia[/name].
[name]Georgia[/name] - This is cute. [name]Georgia[/name]'s #326 on the charts, so it’s a well-known name but it shouldn’t be overly common.
[name]Magnolia[/name] - I love this. [name]How[/name] about [name]Nola[/name] as a nickname instead of [name]Maggie[/name]?
[name]Faith[/name] - I’ve never really liked [name]Faith[/name], and I honestly don’t know why. It’s also #74 on the charts right now, so if you want to avoid popular names you might want to avoid it.
[name]Annabella[/name] - This is cute.
Velvetine - This is really, really bad. Like, stripper/porn story territory. I would really discourage this one.
[name]How[/name] about …

[name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Eulalie[/name]

[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Rosaline[/name]
[name]Anthea[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name]
[name]Idony[/name]
[name]Flavia[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name] / [name]Sylvia[/name]
[name]Saffron[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Anwen[/name]
Perhaps you may like Virelai? It’s rather out there, but I’m pretty much in love with it. It’s pronounced [name]VEER[/name]-ah-lie and is the name of an old French type of poem. I discovered it over at Bewitching Names.
I recognize that it’s out there and it could very well be too out there for you, but I brought it up because it has such a gorgeous sound and I thought it had a few sounds in comon with some of the names on your list.
[name]Indigo[/name]- I’m not a huge fan, but it does have a nice spunkiness about it, and the cute nn of [name]Indie[/name].
[name]Claudia[/name]- I’m really not into this one. All I hear is [name]Claude[/name].
[name]Georgia[/name]- I adore [name]Georgia[/name]! It’s cute, spunky and classy. One of my favorite names!
[name]Magnolia[/name]- it’s a bit stuffy sounding for my tastes, but the nn of [name]Maggie[/name] makes me like it a lot more.
[name]Faith[/name]- it’s ok, not my favorite but nice as a fn.
[name]Annabella[/name]- it’s pretty, I prefer [name]Annabelle[/name], but [name]Annabella[/name] is lovely also.
[name]HOw[/name] about:
[name]Veda[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Annora[/name]
[name]Honor[/name]
[name]Roxanne[/name]/[name]Roxanna[/name]
[name]Annika[/name]
[name]Valentine[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Colette[/name] n [name]Coco[/name]
[name]Cosette[/name] nn [name]Coco[/name] or cozy
[name]Giulia[/name]
[name]India[/name] - stunning, i love this name
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
Have you considered combining the [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Ann[/name] for [name]Georgianna[/name]? Maybe [name]Georgianna[/name] [name]Wren[/name].
I was also going to suggest [name]Vera[/name] instead of [name]Verity[/name]. You have a few of my top favorites on your consider list!
My dh didn’t like [name]Magnolia[/name] but he was okay with [name]Magdalen[/name] and [name]Magdalena[/name] - any appeal there? Also for [name]Magnolia[/name] you could use nn [name]Nola[/name], [name]Lia[/name], even [name]Meg[/name]. I don’t think you have to be stuck with [name]Maggie[/name].
Some other names I liked that you might too…
[name]Gwyneth[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]/[name]Gwendolen[/name] (although if you are too easily swayed I will warn you that all the Gw- names get mixed reaction)
[name]Vivienne[/name] (less unusual than Velvetine – Velveteen is a kind of fabric)
[name]Vivianne[/name] (alternate spelling to incorporate [name]Ann[/name])
Anneleise
[name]Anastasia[/name] (also could spell [name]Annastasia[/name])
[name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name]- I love [name]Indigo[/name], it’s sweet, slightly exotic, but easy to pronounce and spell
[name]Claudia[/name]- I think this is a great name too, it’s familiar but not used often, and I like the way it sounds
[name]Georgia[/name]- One of my all time favorites, its lush, romantic, sophisticated and charming
[name]Magnolia[/name]- pretty name
[name]Faith[/name]- Pretty but I don’t know if I like the combo of [name]Faith[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
[name]Annabella[/name]- Sweet name with some southern charm
Velvetine- I think it’s cute your husband made this up, but for me it’s a little too risky as a 1st name, maybe a middle? or maybe you would consider [name]Valentine[/name] instead?
Some others to consider:
[name]Valentine[/name]
[name]Carina[/name]
[name]Idalina[/name]
[name]Indah[/name]
[name]Indira[/name]
[name]Kerensa[/name]
[name]Mercy[/name]
[name]Neva[/name]
[name]Nova[/name]
[name]Portia[/name]
[name]Prairie[/name]
[name]Silvie[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Verena[/name]
[name]Verona[/name]
And from what’s already been suggest I like
[name]Roxanne[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]India[/name]
[name]Cressida[/name]
[name]Rosaline[/name]
[name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Idony[/name]
Indigo- I don’t think it’s very feminine.
Claudia - I think it’s classy,sophisticated and underused.
Georgia- pretty
Magnolia- I think this is a fun name and pretty.
Faith - Nothing wrong with this name but I think it’s a bit boring.
Annabella- Pretty and sweet
Velvetine- I don’t like this at all.
[name]Indigo[/name] - I go straight to [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name]. My name is [name]Indigo[/name] Montoya
[name]Claudia[/name] - nice
[name]Georgia[/name] - pretty enough-but nms
[name]Magnolia[/name] - very pretty
[name]Faith[/name] - too boring
[name]Annabella[/name] - again, nms
Velvetine-I can only think rabbit.
I love [name]Annabella[/name]. Have you thought about [name]Flavia[/name]? It’s one of my off-the-beaten-path favorites. Another (that I started a post about awhile back and got very mixed reviews on) is Annabette. [name]Just[/name] a thought!
[name]Indigo[/name] - i like it. it’s cute and quirky. i don’t see it as very sophisticated though.
[name]Claudia[/name] - this def fits with pretty, somewhat unique, cool and sophisticated. i also like claudine.
[name]Georgia[/name] - i love this name and it fits w/ what youre going for, but i think it will get more popular than claudia will. however i like georgia much more than claudia
[name]Magnolia[/name] - i’m not that into the nn either. if it has a lot of meaning for you go for it, but i don’t love it as a first name.
[name]Faith[/name] - not my taste. vera means faith in russian if it’s the meaning that you’re into.
[name]Annabella[/name] - i’m turned off by the -bella -ella ending which doesn’t feel unique/cool to me.
Velvetine- this makes me think of the velvetine rabbit which i loved as a kid, but don’t think it makes a good name.
For the [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name] comment…I believe it was [name]Inigo[/name]. [name]Indigo[/name] is gorgeous!
[name]Claudia[/name] is also gorgeous.
Georia…I agree with the [name]Georgiana[/name] comment.
[name]Magnolia[/name] was a name I loved until I heard about [name]Magnolia[/name] TVs, but I still don’t know how popular they are?
[name]Faith[/name] - definitely not my style.
[name]Annabella[/name] - better than just [name]Anne[/name], but definitely not my style. I prefer [name]Annika[/name]. In fact, [name]Annika[/name] [name]Indigo[/name] sounds cool.
Velvetine - I could totally love this, but it is a little “out there,” and my first thought was Velveteen Rabbit. If you really love it, I would stick it in the middle.
[name]Fenella[/name] was one of my favorite names! The only thing close that I can think of is [name]Fionnuala[/name], the Irish version, and [name]Freya[/name], which seems similar.
I love others’ suggestions of [name]Verbena[/name], [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Cressida[/name] (nn [name]Cricket[/name]!), [name]Vesper[/name], [name]Eulalie[/name], [name]Annora[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Valentine[/name], [name]Indira[/name], [name]Nova[/name], [name]Portia[/name], [name]Elora[/name] and [name]Sapphira[/name]. Lots of great options!!
The character from The [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name] is [name]Inigo[/name] Montoya (his name in real life is [name]Mandy[/name]!)
From your list I really like:
[name]Indigo[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name] and
[name]Magnolia[/name] (I agree with a pp that you don’t have to go with the NN “[name]Maggie[/name]” for this one.)
I sort of like [name]Faith[/name] but only in the MN spot.
This has already been suggested, but instead of Velvetine, what about [name]Valentina[/name]?
I also like [name]Veda[/name].
[name]Indigo[/name] - I think it’s just a bit much as a first. The right person would wear it well, but a shy or bookish [name]Indigo[/name] would be weird. I’d recommend [name]Indira[/name], which I feel is more versitile.
[name]Claudia[/name] - I love [name]Claudia[/name]! Classic but very underused.
[name]Georgia[/name] - Steadily in the 300’s, definitely not popular.
[name]Magnolia[/name] - NN possibilities: [name]Nola[/name], [name]Lia[/name], [name]Mags[/name], [name]Magali[/name].
[name]Faith[/name] - Not my favorite virtue name. What if [name]Faith[/name] grows up to be an atheist? I like [name]Hope[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Mercy[/name], [name]Grace[/name], or [name]Felicity[/name] more.
[name]Annabella[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! I like it much more than [name]Annabel[/name].
Velvetine (Which my husband made up but likes) - I think it’s silly sounding. Like [name]Satine[/name], it’s just a bit too fabric-y. And, velveteen rabbit? I’d recommend [name]Valentine[/name]/[name]Valentina[/name].
My favorites are [name]Annabella[/name], [name]Claudia[/name], and [name]Georgia[/name] in that order.
I’d recommend [name]Valentina[/name], [name]Viviana[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Mercy[/name], [name]Hope[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Indira[/name], and [name]Celine[/name].
A random assortment, but I thought each was linked in some way to your list.
Like any of these? Some might be a bit out there for your tastes.
[name]Indigo[/name] - Very bohemian! I really like the sound, and the images it conjures up actually. It makes me think of a deep purple night sky. Gorgeous!
[name]Claudia[/name] - Well, obviously I disagree about [name]Cordelia[/name] being stuffy… that being said I do love [name]Claudia[/name]. [name]Claudie[/name] even more. swoooon. I think it is an attractive name, but not a ‘wow’ name.
[name]Georgia[/name] - I’m not a fan of popular names either; but like this one! Having said that, it is less distinctive. Pretty, feisty, but everyday.
[name]Magnolia[/name] - Hmm, quite like this, but because its both long AND zany I think it’d end up being terminally shortened to either [name]Maggie[/name] or [name]Nola[/name]. I like the latter nickname a lot
[name]Faith[/name] - Not a fan at all. Generally not a fan of overtly religious names on kids. [name]Faith[/name] to me feels especially pious!
[name]Annabella[/name] - [name]Bella[/name] is a cute nn, agreed. But [name]Annabella[/name] sounds so extravagant! [name]Annabel[/name], imo, has all the charm and less of the fussiness. [name]Bella[/name] still works there, too
Velvetine - This to me just screams either cuddly toy or stripper. V harsh comment, but there we are! All your other names have real class though.
So my favourites of your shortlist would be (in order): [name]Indigo[/name], [name]Claudia[/name], [name]Annabel[/name]
I have an Aunt [name]Flavia[/name], but do not know anyone else by that name. So I was pleasantly surprised to see this name on Saraallison’s
and Harrietsmummy’s lists. I also think that Isola is a beautiful name but have never seen it used.
What about:
[name]Tahnee[/name]: Its very popular in Australia but I am not sure about in [name]America[/name] though
[name]Yasmine[/name]: It has been one of my faves since I was five and it is very nice with [name]Ann[/name]/e
[name]Georgina[/name]: A bit less common then [name]Georgia[/name]
Sharni:Sweet and feminine also goes well with [name]Ann[/name]/e
[name]Indiana[/name]: A bit more feminine than Idigo. Also [name]Indigo[/name] could be a nn
[name]Danae[/name]: I know a girl with this name and it is very pretty
Ashen: I know a girl with this name and it is very pretty though it is mistaken as [name]Ashlyn[/name]
Also I know someone called [name]Claudia[/name] pronounced [name]Cloud[/name]-ia
[name]Verity[/name] is very pretty! And great virtue name, meaning truth. Something I personally value a great deal. Maybe your hubby would go for it with the cute nn of [name]Vera[/name]?
[name]Indigo[/name] - [name]Indira[/name] nn [name]Indie[/name]?
[name]Claudia[/name] - [name]Clarissa[/name] nn [name]Claire[/name]/[name]Clairy[/name]/[name]Rissa[/name] or [name]Clementine[/name]?
[name]Georgia[/name] - What about [name]Georgina[/name]?
[name]Magnolia[/name] - What about [name]Nola[/name] or [name]Lia[/name] as a nickname?
