Pronouciation help - French or Danish speakers...

I’ve been thinking about [name]Lys[/name] as a potential name for another girl (ttc for number 2 at the moment and hubby feels he’s destined to have 2 girls :wink: so… )
I know it’s French for [name]Lilly[/name] and Danish for light. So I’m interested do French and Danish speakers pronounce it the same?
[name]Even[/name] if you don’t speak either language how would you pronounce it.

I do not speak French or Danish, but I would pronounce [name]Lys[/name] either Liss or Lies.

In French its pronounced Lees (Like “lis” but with a short ee sound)

In Danish we put a lot of pressure on the Y, and at the same time our Y’s sound very different than the English Y’s. The forvo link is great.

[name]Lys[/name] is on my list. It’s ‘lees’, like [name]Lisa[/name] without the A or lease (liking leasing a car)

I am by no means fluent in French, but I do have a semi-vested interest in it, and I’d love to be fluent one day. :slight_smile: I, too, would say LEES. (And @merrybells, don’t feel bad! I’ve always said it fleur de lee, too!)
