[name_m]How[/name_m] does everyone pronounce the name [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]?
I really like the name pronounced as [name_u]Ade[/name_u]-leen, which according to Nameberry is the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation and it says here in [name_u]America[/name_u] it’s pronounced [name_u]Ade[/name_u]-line, like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. I’m not crazy about the name when it’s pronounced [name_u]Ade[/name_u]-line, but I like [name_u]Ade[/name_u]-leen.
So how does everyone else pronounce [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and if I ever used the name would she be constantly telling people how to pronounce it?
I would naturally pronounce it add-uh-line but it wouldn’t surprise me if I met someone who pronounced it add-uh-leen. (though I would have to be told to pronounce it that way)
I would quite easily be corrected to ad-ehl-leen if you wanted to pronounce it that way. It’s a [name_m]French[/name_m] name and that’s the correct [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation, so it’s definitely a legitimate pn.
I have been trying to get people to say [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] as ah-veh-leen without much look though, haha.
I’d say ade-line but it wouldn’t be to bad. Most people hear a name before they spell it. You could also try spelling it like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] without the M. Adeleine would make me say ade-leen.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first guess is add-a-line, but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear -leen or -lyn, and I believe they’re all correct. Personally I like -lyn best.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]-leen. I would pronounce [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] like ada-lynn and ada-line just doesn’t come to mind (as I pronounce [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] like mad-a-lyn).
