[name_m]Just[/name_m] seeing how you berries pronounce these names. Please state what country you are from, or region (USA), so I can factor in accents. Thanks berries!
Briseis- [name_f]Bree[/name_f]-say-iss
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]- air-ee-AHd-knee
(USA)
I’m Australian.
bree-say-ISS
ah-ree-[name_m]AD[/name_m]-nee
Thanks guys. I pronounce them the same as you guys but I was curious.
My one pronunciation issue is more with [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], with the third syllable. AHD-nee or add-nee? With Briseis, I’m worried that people will have no clue how to say it.
I have a friend called [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] and she pronounces it Ar-rie-[name_m]AD[/name_m]-nee
I pronounce these names the same.
I do, however, think the overwhelming majority of people in the US will have NO IDEA how to pronounce Briseis. (I can imagine many people will try to say something like “[name_u]Brice[/name_u]-iss” when reading it for the first time. This isn’t a complete disaster, though, it happens to a lot of people! We’re planning on (most likely) naming our daughter [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]… which kind of has the same issue. A simple correction will do! Beautiful name!
- [name_f]Aggie[/name_f]-
Here is [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] is Greek: Pronunciations for Ἀριάδνη
‘ah-ree-AHTH-ne’ it sounds like he’s saying. ‘ah’ is halfway between a sigh and ‘ar’ like [name_m]Mars[/name_m]. ‘th’ is like the. He’s definitely not saying ‘air’.
I would say Ar-ee-ahd-nee and I would guess [name_f]Bree[/name_f]-say-s but I would not be very confident in my guess with the latter. I’m in the South, USA
I teach the Iliad in high school and people often want to pronounce it either “Briss-e-us” or “[name_f]Bri[/name_f]-say-us” … or students often just say “that one with the B” I do think it’s a beautiful name though.
[name_f]Bree[/name_f]-say-ees. Southeast Europe, Slavic origin.
in the US.
[name_m]AH[/name_m] [name_f]REE[/name_f] [name_m]AD[/name_m] NEE.
Thanks for all your responses! So helpful, as usual.
air-ee-ad-nee

They would make quite an awesome twinset, come to think of it! I pronounce them brih-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]-iss and ahr-ee-AHD-nee.
Same as @ashthedreamer. Briseis = brih-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]-iss and [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] = ahr-ee-AHD-nee.
Briseis- like precise but with a b instead of a p
