I have met two people with this name in my life. [name]One[/name] prned it Suh-rye. The other was Suh-rae. Is one of them pronouncing it incorrectly?
I like this as a legitimate alternative to [name]Sarah[/name].

I pronounce it Suh-rye. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered Suh-rae before.
I know one and she pronounced it the Spanish way: Sah-rah-ee.
I’ve always thought it pronounced it was Sair - eye, and I’m fairly sure that’s how they pronounced it at my church.
I’ve always wondered what the correct pronounciation is… My first thought is Suh-ray.
Lol…no lie, I [name]JUST[/name] looked up the pronunciation of [name]Sarai[/name] on Google two days ago! Unfortunately I couldn’t seem to find one definitive answer. I couldn’t even figure out which part of the name should be stressed. I kept finding: suh-[name]RYE[/name], suh-[name]RAE[/name], SAR-eye, and SAR-ay. I was considering adding the name to my list until I looked it up and saw the ambiguity of the pronunciation, and unfortunately that turned me off to it. There are too many other names that I love so I decided not to bother adding this confusing one to my list. You may find a pronunciation that you really like and feel differently about it though.
According to behindthename.com it’s prn SER-ie.
Personally I would stress it the same way you stress [name]Sarah[/name] (which behindthename has prn as SER-ə).
I would say suh-[name]RYE[/name]
Suh-rye. It’s a biblical/Hebrew name, that’s how the vowels actually are. Technically emphasis should be on the 2nd syllable but i have heard it on the first.
its pronounced:
Suh - ray
I’ve always pronounced it suh-rye, I think it’s a beautiful name.
I had a student named [name]Sarai[/name] last year, they pronounce it sa-[name]RYE[/name] where they are (but the R is flapped)
I would pronounce it Suh-rye, but I know a little girl who pronounces it Seh-rah-EE (which was super hard to get used to).
I also just read a book with a character named [name]Soraya[/name] (sore-eye-yuh), which I’d never heard before and thought was beautiful.
I pronounce it suh-[name]RYE[/name].
Suh-rye. That’s how I’ve always pronounced it.
There’s an NPR reporter with this name: [name]Sarai[/name] Saharddi [name]Nelson[/name]. She pronounces it suh-[name]RYE[/name].
I’ve heard it pronounced suh-[name]RYE[/name] as well. [name]Lovely[/name] name.
I’ve only heard people say Suh-[name]RYE[/name].
I’ve always heard it as suh-rye. I always heard it pn as such, as well. I actually really like this name, but my name is [name]Sarah[/name], so it’s too similar to my name to use!
I would definitely say Suh-[name]RYE[/name]
