The background: I love [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. My name is [name_f]Alison[/name_f] with one. L. If we have a girl, she and I will share a middle name of [name_u]Michele[/name_u] with one L. I thought I would like ot follow tradition and spell it [name_f]Calie[/name_f] with one L. Some people are worried that it will be pronounced [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f]… what do you think?
I would pronounce it [name_f]Callie[/name_f] and prefer this spelling if I didn’t know the story behind one ‘l’. I can’t see pronunciation issues and when she verbally introduces herself it won’t be a problem X
[name_f]Alison[/name_f] was originally spelled with one “l” and Michèle is the [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling of the name [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] so I would spell the name Callie correctly because that’s the tradition in your family. [name_f]Callie[/name_f] looks pretty and complete. [name_f]Calie[/name_f] just looks like it’s lacking a letter or misspelled. I would also pronounce each spelling differently.

[name_f]Alison[/name_f] is a less common spelling than [name_u]Allison[/name_u], and [name_u]Michele[/name_u] is less common than [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], but they’ve both been in the top 500 for most of the last 30 years and are very recognizable to people. [name_f]Calie[/name_f] has never been in the top 1000, so although it’s kind of following the tradition of your name in picking the spelling with one L, it’s also creating a new tradition of changing the spelling of a name that is almost always spelled with two Ls. (Which might be hard to maintain if you have more daughters. [name_f]Calie[/name_f] is relatively subtle and doesn’t create major pronunciation problems, but Moly or [name_f]Ela[/name_f] would.)
If you love [name_f]Callie[/name_f], I think [name_u]Michele[/name_u] with one L is enough to add the element of tradition to your daughter’s name. Or, I noticed that [name_f]Calista[/name_f]/[name_f]Callista[/name_f] is a name more like [name_f]Alison[/name_f] and [name_u]Michele[/name_u] in that it’s sometimes spelled with one L, and sometimes with two. And then you’d just have to decide whether the one L tradition applies to nicknames too.
I like the suggestion of [name_f]Calista[/name_f]… wonder if I can talk my husband into that…
I would probably pronounce it correctly, but if I ever had to write her name down, I’d spell it with two L’s. While [name_f]Alison[/name_f] and [name_u]Michele[/name_u] are both less-popular but still recognized spellings, [name_f]Calie[/name_f] isn’t. [name_u]Cali[/name_u], however, is.
Someone mentioned [name_u]Cali[/name_u]? I think that would be a better alternative because it’s commonly pronounced as [name_u]Cali[/name_u]. [name_f]Calie[/name_f], however, does look like it ought to be pronounced [name_u]KAY[/name_u]-lee - I know this might not make a difference, but English language “rules” do make it [name_u]KAY[/name_u]-lee. [name_u]Cali[/name_u] and [name_f]Calista[/name_f] are both great options, but I would choose [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. She already has the one ‘L’ in her middle name.
I agree with mischa about the misspelling. But id think it Kuh-lie lie like fibbing lies… Although it can work with your name here I don’t think so. . [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Calista[/name_f] with one L instead of [name_f]Callista[/name_f] & nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f].

If you like one L and you like the name [name_f]Callie[/name_f], how about you spell it as [name_u]Cali[/name_u]? I have a friend named [name_u]Cali[/name_u] and I always thought it was cute.
I like [name_u]Cali[/name_u], or even better, since your name is [name_f]Alison[/name_f] and not [name_u]Ali[/name_u], naming her [name_f]Calista[/name_f], and then having [name_u]Cali[/name_u] as a nickname. Though, both [name_f]Calista[/name_f] [name_u]Michele[/name_u] and [name_u]Cali[/name_u] [name_u]Michele[/name_u] sound nice, the former sounds more formal and the latter sounds more cute.
Yeah, I think my first reaction to the spelling [name_f]Calie[/name_f] would be to pronounce it kay-lee. Originally, [name_f]Alison[/name_f] and [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] only had one L. I think it was just trends that added in that extra L. So personally I would just stick to the original spelling of [name_f]Callie[/name_f] to avoid any problems. However, if you don’t have a problem with correcting people who call her “kay-lee” then go ahead and use [name_f]Calie[/name_f] because it is really cute and different.

My sister liked [name_f]Callie[/name_f] but wanted a longer name. She liked [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Calista[/name_f], Caliope, and [name_f]Calandra[/name_f].
