[name_m]Just[/name_m] a quick one- how do you pronounce the Welsh name [name_f]Eira[/name_f]?
I think the welsh way is A-rah. From first glance I’d say Eye-rah
It’s AY-ra.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s AY-rah. I love it, but I love [name_f]Aira[/name_f] (eye-rah) slightly more.
I agree with@ottilie- it’s AY-ra.
From my reasearch, there’s 2 ways as Northern and Southern [name_m]Wales[/name_m] seem to have slightly different prns. ‘eye-rah’ or ‘ay-rah’ (the ‘ay’ rhyming with bay).
There’s also the Swedish/Finnish pronunciation ‘air-ah’. [name_f]Eira[/name_f] is the goddess of medicine in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u].
I would most likely say (ear-uh). Maybe (eye-ruh)
Thanks everyone! Its a real beauty, isn’t it? I was actually looking at it for a friend’s baby but its now on my own list. I love the Norse connection and the Welsh ‘snow’ meaning is so utterly romantic.
My grandpa (who is Welsh) says it’s eye-ruh.
AY-ra is correct if you’re being a stickler for proper Welsh pronunciation. The people in the north would say the people in the south are saying it wrong
It’s Ay-ra (that’s the Norwegian way). It’s my name
