[name_f]Joie[/name_f] is a french children’s brand selling prams etc, so that’s my first point of reference (obviously I know it’s also the french word for ‘joy’) - I’d always assume it was jwah.
TBH if it was being pronounced ‘[name_u]Joey[/name_u]’ I would assume someone had misunderstood the origin of the name, but I suppose phonetically that does make sense.
I know someone (in the States) with a kid called [name_f]Joie[/name_f] - which I assumed was pronounced [name_f]Joy[/name_f], if not Jwah! Turns out she is a [name_u]Joey[/name_u]. My view is that it’s unnecessarily confusing and cutesy to use [name_f]Joie[/name_f] for [name_u]Joey[/name_u], though I get some might think it looks prettier.
