My husband and I are all over the place with our third baby(second daughter)'s name. I think we both like [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] (sah-rye) Louna. Last name Herrera. Louna is spelled with an “o” to pay tribute to my Aunt [name_f]Cindy[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. Our other kids are [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Faith[/name_f].
My questions are:
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] if you’ve never heard it before?
Is the spelling of Louna too unique, or confusing?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] the first and middle names flow well with the last name?
1- Suh-rye, but that may be my [name_m]German[/name_m] brain pronouncing -ai- as eye automatically
2- I don’t think so, it’s the traditional [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling as it’s the only way the -oo- pronunciation can be kept in [name_m]French[/name_m]
3- I think they do flow well.
4- I think [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] are a lot more English and modern than unusual [name_f]Sarai[/name_f], so no, I don’t think it goes with their names, however, I still think they’re fine together!
I would pronounce it S(air) + eye. I think that this is the most common pronunciation in English of the biblical [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]'s wife’s name before it was changed to [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]–which is the context that a lot of people would probably know the name from.
I would pronounce [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] the way you pronounce it.
I really don’t care for this spelling of [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. If the familial connection makes you feel warm and fuzzy, use it. I thought it was pronounced “L-ow-na”. But middle names aren’t used often anyway.
I think the first and last names flow well, and that’s more important than if all 3 names flow well since all 3 names won’t be used often every day. I like [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] Herrera. [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] Louna Herrera flows fine.
Stylistically, I don’t think [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] goes with [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. I don’t think that’s a reason not to use it. There’s no law saying sibsets must match. If it bothers you, I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] goes well with sister [name_u]Everly[/name_u]; however, if you do move [name_f]Luna[/name_f] to the first name spot, I’d use the more recognizable spelling.
I pronounce the name suh-[name_m]RYE[/name_m]. Louna doesn’t bother me, as it’s a legitimate spelling and it’s an honour name. Regarding the sibling names, [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] are pretty different to me, style wise, so I wouldn’t bat an eye if they had a sister called [name_f]Sarai[/name_f].
I’ve always pronounced [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] as Suh-ray but I could be wrong because I’ve never actually checked. Personally I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is far prettier than Louna but as an honour name I like it and it appears as an actual name and not something made up or kr8tive. I also think the combo is lovely in your sibset
I have always pronounced [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] sair-eye. To my knowlage, that is the correct English pronunciation. I have a cousin-in-law (is that what you would call them?) who’s name is [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] and pronounces it [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. It drives me crazy.
I would personally use the [name_f]Luna[/name_f] spelling, but middles are rarely used outside of forms, so I don’t think confusion is too much of an issue since it’s not the first name.
The flow of the whole name is fine. Not ideal, but it’s still okay.
I don’t think [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] Louna really goes with [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] at all, but I don’t personally see that as a big issue.
I think both names are easy to pronounce and I would pronounce them the same as you. If the pronunciation of [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] worries you, another pretty and similar name is [name_f]Sariah[/name_f] (pronounced like [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] with an S) and you could call her [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] for short. Good luck!
I’d pronounce [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] as you’ve written it.
I would have assumed Louna is something different. I think it can still easily be an honor name if it’s properly spelled. Thankfully the middle name will only be used infrequently so the head scratching and side eye over the spelling and pronunciation will be limited.
