I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Leia[/name_f] (pronounced [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-uh), but I’m worried that it would be too hard for people to pronounce correctly. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it/would you spell it differently? Would you pronounce it differently if it was spelled that way?
I did have to think about it for a few seconds, but [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-uh was the first pronunciation my brain settled on. Other than maybe [name_f]Laya[/name_f], which I don’t think is nearly as pretty, I can’t really think of clearer way to spell it.
[name_f]Leia[/name_f] is pronounced [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-uh in [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars, and since that is pretty popular, most people will probably pronounce it right.
I would say lay-uh. If it were spelled [name_f]Leah[/name_f], I’d probably say lee-uh
I think the majority will say it correctly because of [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars.
She might have to correct people occasionally but it shouldn’t be a huge deal (especially since there’s so many girls called [name_f]Mia[/name_f]/[name_f]Maia[/name_f]/[name_f]Maya[/name_f]/[name_f]Nia[/name_f]/[name_f]Naia[/name_f]/[name_f]Nya[/name_f]/[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]/[name_f]Kaya[/name_f]/[name_f]Lia[/name_f]/[name_f]Lea[/name_f]/[name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Laila[/name_f] etc. who also have to spell out their names too)
My thought as well.
I agree about the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars thing, as well. I really don’t think you’ll have any problems at all =]
