Pronunciation - Lachlan or Lochlan

Due in a week and need to lock down spelling of our boy’s name. Should we go for [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] or [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]? We live in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m]. [name_m]How[/name_m] do others in the US pronounce the names?

We want people to pronounce it [name_m]Lock[/name_m]-lin.

Which spelling should we go for?

I’ve always seen it as [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]

I pronounce [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] as [name_m]Lock[/name_m]-lin and I’m in [name_u]California[/name_u]. But I’m a name nerd. And I’ve learned to never, ever underestimate the indifference & ignorance of the non-name-nerd. [name_f]My[/name_f] point is: if you want to be sure that non-name-nerds & the general population understand at a glance then I’d use [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m].

I prefer [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].

Although I’m in NZ where this name is far more common, so I think most people are familiar with the pronunciation.

[name_m]Lochlan[/name_m], looks like a typo to my eyes.

I prefer [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. I believe people will still say it the way you want with this spelling.

I would use [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] in the US because it’s the most familiar spelling. I pronounce [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] the same.

I pronounce them both the same and much prefer the spelling [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].

[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is Scottish. [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] (or more authentically, [name_m]Lochlainn[/name_m]) is Irish. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are pronounced “lock-lin” but I think [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is the more recognized spelling so I think this one is the most likely to get pronounced correctly.

Great, thank you for the input everyone. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] it will be (if the bump is a boy!)
