hi berries! hope you’re having a great day, and if you aren’t I hope it gets better soon!
I was thinking of adding [name_f]Ada[/name_f] to my list, but I wanted to know how everyone would pronounce it. I naturally pronounce it Ah-da (like the a in apple), but I know that some people pronounce it Ay-da too.
How would you naturally pronounce [name_f]Ada[/name_f]? If it was spelled with a h at the end, would that make any difference to your pronouncation?
[name_f]My[/name_f] instinct for [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is ay-duh and [name_f]Adah[/name_f] is ahh-dah! Neither would be the a as in apple, at least in my accent But I think it would be an easy correction to your preferred pronunciation. In real life I know an [name_f]Ada[/name_f] ay-duh and an [name_f]Ada[/name_f] ahh-dah. I think both names are nice, though I’m especially excited to [name_f]Adah[/name_f] appreciation!!
I also agree with @winterlyricalfox that I’d also say [name_f]Adda[/name_f] the way you want.
For me, it Aay-dah. Mostly because years ago, the game Resident Evil on PS1 had a character with that name and thats how they pronounced it. I think it would depend on your location with pronunciation. [name_f]My[/name_f] guess would be, in Europe or UK, it may be pronounced Aah-dah. In the US, they would more than likely pronounce it Aay-dah. Thats just speculation tho. Its a nice name either way.
I would pronounce both [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Adah[/name_f] as Ay-da. Ah-da is nice too, but I think it might be easier to get that pronunciation if you spell it [name_f]Adda[/name_f] or Ahda. I don’t necessarily know what the “correct” pronunciation of Ada/Adah is, but I think the similarity to [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Avah[/name_f] would have people default to pronouncing the a’s in the same way.
I think in Western Anglophone countries it would typically be pronounced AY-da. In Europe and Latin [name_f]America[/name_f] it’s more likely to be pronounced AH-da.
However, I do know [name_f]Ada[/name_f] can be pronounced ‘ah-duh’ too; I guess it just depends where you are, what the most common pronunciation is there, how you’d feel about needing to correct it?
I am in [name_f]America[/name_f], and my default for both spellings is ay-duh, but I wouldn’t be surprised to be corrected to ah-duh, especially for [name_f]Adah[/name_f]. If I were in Europe, I might default to ah-duh. I wouldn’t assume add-uh (a as in apple) in either case; I think perhaps [name_f]Adda[/name_f] would yield that pronunciation more.
with ada, i say ah-dah normally, but ay-dah in an english-speaking context! (e.g. if i see the name being discussed by someone who i know is from the US, UK, etc.). adah looks distinctly english so i’d only ever pronounce it like ay-dah
I’d naturally pronounce it as Ay-da, however if someone corrected me I’d find it easy to remember. I’d pronounce [name_f]Adah[/name_f] as Ah-da, however I’m not super keen on the spelling- I think [name_f]Adda[/name_f] might look better.
