What is your first though when pronouncing [name_f]Adalia[/name_f]? My wife and I want to pronounce it [name_m]ADD[/name_m]-UH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-UH and not UH-DAH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-UH. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any suggestions on spelling to encourage this? Addalia? Adaleia?
This is the perspective of someone who doesn’t know the correct pronunciation. I would say ad-AIL-yuh with emphasis on the second A. If this is wrong and the first syllable is on emphasis, I would say AY-dal-yuh. I wouldn’t naturally go to an add sound.
I would pronounce [name_f]Adalia[/name_f] like [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] with an “uh” at the front. I think Addalia is more likely to encourage the pronunciation you want.
I say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-doll-ya when I see [name_f]Adalia[/name_f] (I’ve known one, too, and that’s how it was pronounced). To get [name_m]Add[/name_m]-uh-lee-uh, I would think of something like Addaleah, but I don’t really care for how that looks…hope you get some good suggestions!
Also, have you considered [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], since that has the same first two syllables as your desired pronunciation?
[name_f]Adalia[/name_f] definitely looks like a-dalia to me, rather than ada-lia. I think it would have to be [name_f]Adaleah[/name_f] to get the right sound across
