I’m wondering how you would pronounce the name [name_f]Aileen[/name_f]. Does the first syllable rhyme with “mail” or “mile”, or something else?
Please specify where you’re from.
Thanks!

I knew someone of this name when I went to high school in the midwest, USA. It was pronounced eye-lean.
I know one (of Irish extraction); she pronounces it to rhyme with “mail” - “ay-LEEN”. I’m in the UK.
I’m from the Midwest and would pronounce it Eye-leen.
I would normally say it EYE-leen but I knew an older woman with the name and she pronounced it AY-leen.
[name_f]Aileen[/name_f]/[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] both pronounced eye-leen. I’m British.
[name_f]Aileen[/name_f] = Ay-leen
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] = Eye-leen
I know lots of Aileens and [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]'s and this is definitely how each name is pronounced.
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] is Irish
[name_f]Aileen[/name_f] is Scottish afaik
Immediate thought was ‘eye-leen’, then thought ‘ay-leen’ to contrast [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], but I’m pretty sure it is actually eye-leen.
I’d say EYE-leen. I’m from [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and know quite a few [name_f]Aileen[/name_f]/[name_f]Eileen[/name_f]'s.
I knew someone with this name and it was pronounced Eye-lean.
[name_f]East[/name_f] Coast:
[name_f]Aileen[/name_f] = aye LEEN
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] = eye LEEN
I have known people with both names.
I would say eye-leen
eye-LEEN would be my pronunciation, as well as for [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
This isn’t a very satisfactory answer, but if I saw [name_f]Aileen[/name_f] I would be inclined to ask the person bearing the name how they pronounce it.
My sister has the MN [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], which rhymes with “mile”, but I would say [name_f]Aileen[/name_f] as AY-leen, but my only source of reference is a girl in the red chair on [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_m]Norton[/name_m]. haha.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the AY-leen sound, but feel like [name_f]Aileen[/name_f] would be problematic here in the states. I think AY-leen sounds absolutely lilting and gorgeous, though, and would love to know one!
I live in a mid-Atlantic state in the US.
I’m from the southern US and pronounce it eye-lean.
I know a woman in her mid 30s originally from the Phillipeans with the name [name_f]Aileen[/name_f], Eye-leen.
I always thought it was the same as [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], with a long i sound. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name either way, though!
I would say Ay leen. Eye leen would be [name_f]Eileen[/name_f].
I pronounce it eye-leen because I have a friend named [name_f]Aileen[/name_f] who says it that way. Before I met her I thought it was ay-leen though.
