Pronunciation of Alicia?

How do you pronounce [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]? She was one of the main characters in the [name_f]Malory[/name_f] [name_m]Towers[/name_m] books I read as a kid, and always read it as A-liss-i-a, but I was recently told it was pronounced [name_f]Aleesha[/name_f]. I adore my pronunciation of it, and would love to use it, but I’m not sure if even if that pronunciation would be okay, would my child spend their whole life correcting people? Which is the more common pronunciation where your from. I’m from the UK but do plan to live overseas when I’m older.

What siblings would you put with it?

Uh-lee-see-uh is the default in my region.
Uh-lee-sha is also known due to [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_m]Keys[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] preferred pronunciation is uh-LEE-see-uh, but uh-LEE-shuh is the most common where I am (in the US). I’m pretty sure Swedish actress [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] Vikander pronounces it like you do, though!
I think [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] is just one of those names that will have to be corrected no matter how you pronounce it. It’s a pretty name!

Names for siblings:
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], [name_f]Selena[/name_f], [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_u]Adrian[/name_u], [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], [name_u]Seth[/name_u]

The first [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] I knew pronounced it uh-lee-see-uh, so that’s always my go to pronunciation. As I understand it, uh-lee-see-uh is the Spanish pronunciation and uh-leesha is the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation.

I know 2 Alicia’s who pronounce their name Uh-lee-sha and one who’s name is pronounced Uh-lee-see-uh, so both pronunciations would be good. However you will probably have to correct people regardless of how you pronounce it.

i usually pronounce alicia ah-lee-see-ah or like you do - i can definitely see there being a lot of different pronunciations from person to person however, so maybe you might also like elysia, alisa or alyssa ?

sibling ideas:

elena, lola, camila, delphine, serena, freya, eva, tallulah

Ah-lee-sia

To me the other way would be [name_u]Elisha[/name_u] or [name_f]Alisha[/name_f]

I say Uh -Lee- sha but I know of one that pronounces it Uh-lee - see - uh

I actually know a lot of Alicia’s with various spellings. It was really popular in the 80s and 90s.

[name_f]Alisha[/name_f], [name_f]Aleasha[/name_f], [name_f]Elicia[/name_f] , [name_f]Aleisha[/name_f] we’re also common spellings

I can see siblings being [name_m]Eric[/name_m] , [name_m]Chad[/name_m] , [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] , [name_m]Jake[/name_m] , [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] , [name_u]Curtis[/name_u] , [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] , [name_f]Tonya[/name_f] , [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] , [name_f]Kalli[/name_f] , [name_f]Candace[/name_f] , [name_u]Regan[/name_u] ,

I’m in the UK and I’ve known two uh-liss-ee-uhs and one uh-leesh-uh. I’m more inclined to pronounce it uh-liss-ee-uh

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]

[name_f]Aleesha[/name_f].

My mom has a friend named Alicia who pronounces it ah-LEESH-uh, so that’s how I generally pronounce this name.

I pronounce it Uh- lee - see - uh

Uh-leesh-uh

I’ve always pronounced it A-liss-ia (also from the Malory Towers books!) and I was really disappointed to know it’s apparently pronounced A-lee-sha. I much prefer A-liss-ia. It sounds prettier and like another form of Alyssa.

I love the name pronounced uh-lee- see-ah.

Such a pretty name. The pronunciation problem made not want to add it to my shirt list. I have the same problem with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].

I’ve only ever known that spelling to be the equivalent of [name_f]Aleesha[/name_f] . Maybe it depends where you want to move. I’m in the states

I’ve heard it as both Uh-lee-sha and Uh-lee-see-uh

[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] is definitely one of those names where it has multiple pronunciations and you will have to correct people a lot. [name_f]My[/name_f] instinctive pronunciation is “a-liss-ee-uh”, but when it comes to [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_m]Keys[/name_m] I say it like [name_f]Aleesha[/name_f] and when it comes to [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] Silverstone I say “a-lee-see-uh”.

I’ve known three Alicias personally and two of them used the “a-liss-ee-uh” pronunciation while the other used the [name_f]Aleesha[/name_f] one. It really varies from person to person!

[name_f]My[/name_f] friend [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] was A-lee-sha and classmate [name_f]Alisha[/name_f] was A- liss- sha.
