I have also always pronounced it cass-ee-uh. I’ve never understood the cash-uh pronounciation

I don’t understand it either!

Could be due to [name_f]Acacia[/name_f]? Pronounced uh-[name_u]Kay[/name_u]-shuh I would pronounce [name_f]Cassia[/name_f]. [name_m]Cas[/name_m]-see-uh.

I would say [name_u]CASS[/name_u]-ee-uh, just because I don’t think [name_m]CASH[/name_m]-uh is pretty at all. That pronunciation comes from [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] and [name_m]Cassian[/name_m].

[name_m]Cash[/name_m]-a is the “correct” pronunciation. Like southern.maple said, [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] is the feminine form of [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] and [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], and that’s the reason it’s pronounced that way. That said, I do prefer cass-ee-a, and I don’t see why you can’t say it that way if you want.

I say [name_u]CASS[/name_u]-ee-uh, and think it’s prettier, too!

This might be just me, but I’m sure I’ve seen it pronounced [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-sia, rhyming with [name_f]Asia[/name_f]. Another pronunciation to add to the mix!

I can understand the reasoning behind the [name_m]Cash[/name_m]-a pronunciation. Like passion. I’d be inclined to say [name_u]CASS[/name_u]-ee-a but would wonder if i should be saying [name_m]Cash[/name_m]-a.

I think the cassia tree is pronounced cash-ah? So it makes sense to me. I like both pronunciations. I tend to say CAH-sha like ahh rather than [name_m]CASH[/name_m]-ah. But [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-uh seems to be the more common prn.

I would say “cass-ee-uh”. To be “cash-a” it would need to be spelled c.a.c.i.a - phonetics, people! lol

[name_m]Cash[/name_m]-a is the original pronunciation. The name comes from ancient [name_m]Rome[/name_m], so the pronunciation is similar to [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] (like [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] [name_m]Clay[/name_m]). English has strange spelling rules, so the root of the name actually matters more to the pronunciation of most words than the spelling.

That said, like I stated before, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-uh if you prefer that.

Much, much prettier as [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-uh. That’s the only way I pronounce it and I have it on my list.
