Pronunciation of Soli?

how do you pronounce Soli? so-lee or so-lay?
do you prefer Soli or [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]?
any suggestions for combinations?

I’d say it to rhyme with [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]; Soli sounds like it’s short for something.

Soli [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Angelou[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Viveca[/name_f]

So-[name_u]Lee[/name_u], as [name_f]Katinka[/name_f] says rhyming with [name_f]Polly[/name_f]

Soli [name_f]Adelia[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Vitoria[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Alexa[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
Soli [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
Soli [name_f]Kendra[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Georgina[/name_f]
Soli [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
Soli [name_f]Anniston[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
Soli [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]

I’ve never seen it before, but my instinct would be to say Soh-[name_u]Lee[/name_u], like “slowly” without the first “l”.

If it’s pronounced like I think it’s pronounced, I think I actually like Soli slightly better than [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]! I love the sound of [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] but I like that Soli seems shorter and simpler.

I would say it with the EE ending, but perhaps more like SOUL-ee. I definitely don’t get any ‘LAY’ sound with Soli.

I love [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] though, and do prefer it to Soli. Soli, however, is a sweet little thing.

I like Soli with either a short and spunky, potential word-y name (as in Soli Wren or Soli June) or a more old-and-classy yet modern name (like Soli Matilda or Soli Florence).

I’m not familiar with this name. From the spelling, I would pronounce it so-lee, to rhyme with [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] (as in [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]).

I pronounce it Soh-lee/ Soul-ee (rhyming with slowly)

I like it

Same! I admit to preferring [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], or even the Icelandic Sóley (which means buttercup! It’s SO-lay, though, not so-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]…).

Soli is interesting, though!

I would say it SOUL-lee. It’s cute but seems a bit incomplete. I also prefer [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] for the simple reason that my tired eyes misread Soli as “Soil” at first.

Soli makes me think of the phrase “soli deo gloria,” which I’ve heard in church and choral music, and I have always heard it pronounced “Soh-lee” to rhyme with holy. I’ve never seen it as a given name. I think I prefer [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], personally.

wow… thanks for all the feedback! quite a mixed response, i must say i do pronounce it as so-lee rhyming with souly/holy! i think Soli would also make the perfect nn for [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] rather then the good ol’ [name_m]Sol[/name_m]
i really like Soli [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and Soli [name_f]Kendra[/name_f]

If pronounce it So-lee
With a long ‘oe’ sound
And I prefer soleil
