I am shocked to see that the LEE-ton pronunciation is in minority as that how I instinctively pronounce this.

I always want to say LEE-ton, but I have to correct myself that most people pronounce it LAY-ton.

Me too. I know a [name_u]Layton[/name_u] (LAY-ton) so to me that’s just a different name than [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] (LEE-ton to me)… I know that’s just a personal thing but I was very surprised to be in the vast minority here. That said, I have never actually met a [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] so I have no IRL point of reference for that.

I can see why people would pronounce it Lee-ton, but I’ve always pronounced it Lay-ton. I love this name, it’s so pretty and I like [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] Meester.

You pronounce Charleigh and Kayleigh as char-lay and Kay-lay? That is interesting! Those I’d pronounce as “lee” endings, like Ashleigh!

That’s true, but just like the letters of an alphabet, how it sounds depends on the word, I’ve never met anybody first or last where it was pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u], always been [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] like (s)leigh bells

Wow, I’m late but my pronunciation must be off then because I pronounce it like Lie-ton… It should rhyme with [name_m]Brighton[/name_m]

It is a rare name where I live (Queensland). I have only ever heard of one and it was pronounced [name_m]Layton[/name_m].

i would instinctively say LEE-ton, but prefer LAY-ton. sadly, i feel LAY-ton sounds way better in an american accent then it does in my english accent! :weary:
