I prefer [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]. I don’t like Aid because it reminds me of AIDS.
I love the way it sounds. The con I see is that since [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] was SUCH a popular boys name, [name_f]Aideen[/name_f] looks at first glance like either a misspelling or an intentional new quirky spelling of [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] rather than a girls name with a different pronounciation. That’s what I thought your post title was until I clicked and read the description, then I really liked the name.
[name_f]Aida[/name_f] is a cool nickname and it has the sweet een ending without sounding dated like most een/ene names do because it wasn’t common in the previous generation (at least in the usa).
Pros:
Cons
It’s very close to [name_f]Nadine[/name_f]. I’d imagine that she would have to constantly correct people “No no not [name_f]Nadine[/name_f], Aideen!”
i like it in theory, but it may be annoying to correct spelling/pronunciation.
I know someone with this name who spells it [name_f]Etain[/name_f].
It’s a beautiful name and pretty unique in the US, I think. Not sure where you live but it is probably pretty unique everywhere except [name_u]Ireland[/name_u] so that could be a pro or a con since some people may not know how to pronounce it.
I would have pronounced it eye-DEEN because I would pronounce [name_f]Aileen[/name_f] eye-LEEN. It does have a nice sound though!
It sounds pretty, but on paper it would get constantly mixed up with [name_u]Aiden[/name_u].
