[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]- in the U.S. it’s in the 400’s I think that’s a sweet spot of familiar but not super common.
In the U.S. there doesn’t seem to be a lot of common nicknames for it I hear other places there’s flick or fliss, which I don’t really care for. If you think outside the box I think [name_f]Lissie[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_m]Essie[/name_m] and possibly [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] can work. They’re ok I’m not in love with any of them, I like using full names most of the time anyway majority of the time my daughters are [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Izabella[/name_f] occasionally they’re [name_f]Penny[/name_f] and [name_f]Izzy[/name_f]. It has a nice meaning and it’s pretty and vintage.
For [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] this was my original choice months ago then I went through several changes of mind, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], then [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], then [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], now possibl circling back to [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] lol
I have a [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] fits a similar vibe to those names, I don’t know might just be me
Here in the us [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is in the 700s so it’s more rare than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f] itself is in the 300s
however, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m] are very popular I have some concern if it being misheard or mistaken for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
Some people have said it seems like I wanted a boy and just put an a on to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] but there’s lots of female variants of male names I like and to me they don’t seem manly
Victor/victoria
Anthony/antonia
Claude/claudia
George/geogia/georgiana
Henry/henrietta
Jude/judith
Julian/juliana
Oliver/olive
Ramon/ramona
Wilhelm/wilhelmina
Ultimately [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] has more nicknames I like
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] I feel like is maybe the more stereotypically pretty sounding choice and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is more of the dusty antique sort of pretty
I think that [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is established enough in its own right that it doesn’t sound like a variation of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! I don’t think it’s as noticeable as say, [name_m]George[/name_m] and Georgina/Georgette. With [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Izabella[/name_f], however, I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! I think it sounds bright and cheerful, while [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] has a more serious air. I like [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] is a cute and intuitive nickname, although it doesn’t look like it, [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] sounds intuitive. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] would be a great combo as well!
Both names are lovely I don’t think you can go wrong! As far as nicknames go, have you considered Cici/Cece for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]?
I think of [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] as a name in its own right aside from being a feminization of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. And I love [name_f]Thea[/name_f], she’s so spunky!
It seems to me you prefer [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] but go with your heart!
Those are both lovely choices! I prefer [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] “Thea” by a hair, but [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is also lovely and so spunky. I like [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] as a nickname. I’ve also heard of [name_f]Fliss[/name_f] and [name_f]Flick[/name_f] as options!
I love both names and personally don’t think you can go wrong either way. It sounds as though you are leaning more towards [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], so I would say go for that. Especially if you Prefer the nickname options. [name_m]The[/name_m] only other nickname for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Fizz. Although this is very similar to [name_f]Izzy[/name_f].
For you I would go for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] with your girls names, especially as you’ve circled back to her
I don’t know if it’s just me and my associations but [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] feels very [name_m]Gen[/name_m] X to me! I’m not very excited by it. I know one who goes by [name_f]Fliss[/name_f] (late 40s) and one who goes by [name_f]Flick[/name_f] (late 30s). And of course there was the very [name_m]Gen[/name_m] X TV show in the 1990s of the same name.
On the other hand I am so excited by [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]! Yes she might be “dusty antique” but to me she is fresh af and the nicknames [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] make her very current. I would use her in a heartbeat if she didn’t rhyme with my daughter’s name!
And I think you’re right she fits right in with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. They all give me the same warm, funky, familiar, vintage-yet-fresh vibes.
Next to siblings, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is pretty but it doesn’t sound as old fashioned as the sibling names. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is also beautiful but perhaps a little too old fashioned next to the sibling names. [name_m]You[/name_m] get what I mean? Some suggestions if you haven’t quite settled between the two:
I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] the best, especially with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Izabella[/name_f]. I find them all to be bright and happy-sounding, whereas I find [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] to feel a little stuffy and overly buttoned-up.
If you don’t love any of the nicknames, I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is great as a full name (especially since her sisters go by their full names most of the time anyways).
I’m so biased here because [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is one of my absolute favorite names and I would 100% want a [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] of my own one day. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is a lovely name with lots of history and though the records might not show it, I think she’s becoming familiar and loved. Both names are so lovely and so worthy. I would pick [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] in a heartbeat, but as much as it kills me, I’m wondering if [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] feels more right for you? It almost sounds to me that [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is the name that feels most right but you’re concerned subconsciously about how others will perceive the name, so you tried to talk yourself into all these other names? Maybe I’m reading into it wrong, but that’s the vibes my heart is getting. And if that’s the case, use Theodora—she is so worthy of it! [name_f]Teddie[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], and [name_f]Dora[/name_f] are adorable, or even [name_f]Odie[/name_f]!
But I will never vote against my beloved [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], either lol. I don’t love [name_f]Fliss[/name_f] or [name_f]Flick[/name_f] either, but I’ve grown to LOVE the nn [name_f]Cici[/name_f] (or [name_f]Cece[/name_f]) for her. It’s hard for me to separate the two, but I do like [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], Fizzy (though probably unusable with [name_f]Izzy[/name_f] lol), City, Liesey (Lee-see), or even [name_f]Effie[/name_f] too!
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] feels established enough that it doesn’t seem like you wanted a boy to me – it’s got the style of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_m]Alberta[/name_m] etc.
I like it – it feels like less risk in terms of nicknames and is rare-but-familiar!
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is light and breezy – and I can see it being used as a full name.
100% agree with @ashthedreamer it seems like you tried to talk yourself out of [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], but you keep circling back round to it. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is beautiful, and it’s a long established name. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Dora[/name_f] are both lovely nicknames to.
Sibling names don’t need to be cohesive or the same style, but I do find [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] rather different (clunky vintage, a little hipster) to your older kids, whereas [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is just the right amount of history with contemporary usage and feels more timeless. Interestingly, some in this thread see it differently.
[name_f]Fia[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], it sounds almost exactly same as [name_f]Thea[/name_f] for [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (I also get that the look can change how you feel about a name but still worth a thought).
How have your naming decisions been settled for your older kids? If it’s any help, consider whether one parent has had more say in previous decisions or more of their favourites used so the other parent can have their preference this time.
There is no one right choice for each child, but many equally good options. Your child will make the name theirs whatever you choose – that is the real magic.
~ both [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] & [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] are gorgeous! [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] feels lighter, has a more princess quality like Penel0pe + Izabell@ and I think [name_f]Fia[/name_f] could work as a nickname for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] as suggested by @kachenka. I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] feels very cohesive. However I also do not believe you need to have a cohesive sibling set for me it’s not mandatory. I think eclectic sibling sets are really fun. I think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is beautiful and I would automatically associate with the male equivalent ‘Theodore’ I think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] very much stands in her own light.
~ When naming your other children how did you narrow down their names? What was the final decider which made that name more ‘perfect’ in comparison to your other options at the time. Did one parent have more of a say over the other one? Maybe if that is the case it’s the other parent who had less of say time to shine.
~ From my understanding you keep circling back too [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] could that be seen as an indication that [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is your preferred option. Maybe you feel more comfortable with [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and just having cold feet at the final hurdle. Personally I love Theodora!! She’s my favourite! Also you could combine the two names maybe [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] could work.
~ I think also naming a baby is a huge decision whichever you name you go with you’ll be onto a winner!
