Prudence?

What are your honest thoughts on the name [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]?

I love the name [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. I know most people think of it as an old lady name, but I love it’s vintage flair.

I don’t mind the sound, but I think the ‘prude’ part of it makes it an easy target for teasing, particularly for older kids.

I really dislike [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], sorry. It sounds far too fusty, lacy and buttoned-up to me. I do think [name_f]Prue[/name_f] is very cute, though, so I could maybe be convinced…

I think it’s cute virtue name with charm…

I can see the appeal, but it feels very harsh to me.

I love [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. I know a lot of people think ‘prude’ when they see the name but I think of plums. [name_f]Prue[/name_f] → [name_f]Prune[/name_f] = plum in [name_m]French[/name_m]. It’s weird, I know.

Also, I think of the book Once Upon A Potty for girls. The main character is a little girl named [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. It was my niece’s favorite potty training book.

I am not fond of [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. I dislike the sound of the name. Prudence is a big turn off.

As a side note, and a positive, I do start singing Dear [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] in my head when I see or hear the name.

I dislike the name [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. I think of it as an old lady name, and I think a child would have to go by a nickname.

[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is not my style, at all, but I love the nickname [name_f]Prue[/name_f].

I’m afraid I find it difficult to warm up to the name [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. The gentle old-fashioned propriety of the concept of the quality of prudence appeals to me, but the combination of the sounds of the name, the similarity to the word “prude”, and the way the name is usually portrayed in popular culture add up to make me think of it as a hypocritically pious woman who is very pretentious and self-righteous.
[name_f]Patience[/name_f], to me, is a similar name that feels much sweeter and more amiable, but I don’t find it very usable either, as patience, or lack of it, is largely determined by innate temperament, unlike other virtue names such as [name_f]Amity[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

I love the name [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]
