[name_u]November[/name_u] baby is officially a boy. Of course, we had a plethora of girl names prepared and struggled with boy names. Our last name is strongly Italian, ending in an i sound similar to taxi and we are both picky, so here we are ha.
We think we have landed on [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] as the potential name. [name_u]James[/name_u] is an honor name, though we aren’t set on it. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] will be joining older sister $elah [name_f]Plum[/name_f].
I would love some thoughts or comments on [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u].
Thanks all!
I really like it! It strikes as sleek, handsome, polished, and strong. There’s something about the Pr- -er/or names that really appeal to me (thinking about [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Proctor[/name_m] and the virtue name [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]).
I don’t know if it being a homonym with “prior” will cause any problems (“priors/prior bad acts”), but I feel like it’s one of those things where the more you say it as a name, the less you think of the word.
Loving [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] and $elah!
I like it -[name_m]Pryor[/name_m] is distinctive and interesting
Unfortunately I can only think of the word when I hear [name_m]Pryor[/name_m], though I like that it’s unique and I think that it makes a good name for your daughter’s brother.
I had such a positive reaction to seeing the name [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. I think its striking and handsome.
I think it’s good, [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] / [name_m]Prior[/name_m] of course being an occupational name that’s far underused.
There is of course the word prior meaning something before now. As in I have a prior engagement. Or of course as previous poster suggested someone may have prior convictions… I guess it’s true sometimes it’s said like priors as in to say they have a checkered past with the law…
The word prior literally doesn’t mean anything negative standing alone and certainly not [name_m]Pryor[/name_m].
[name_m]Pryor[/name_m] is a surname with a nice meaning. And spelled that way especially looks like a current boys name.
I wouldn’t worry about it. I think it’s lovely with [name_u]James[/name_u].
Thank you all so much! It helps to hear the different things that spring to mind when people hear the name. We have had mixed reactions when sharing it as a potential name (mostly from the older generation, our peers love it), but the more I say it, the more I like it!
Hmmm… It looks nice written down but I can imagine meeting someone named [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] and saying “what’s your name” and him responding with “[name_m]Pryor[/name_m]”, and there being an awkward pause of waiting for him to continue his sentence (prior it was…). There may also be that connotation of someone who pokes about. It’s pretty but may be a tough one to go about with.
I thought it said Pray for [name_u]James[/name_u] so I gave a quick fifteen minutes dedicated to the [name_m]LORD[/name_m] and [name_m]CHRIST[/name_m] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] he is Well
Have Fun! xx
