Hey everyone, I’m busily creating a guide to using the new super version of Nameberry. I’m going to do a short guide, cause that’s what I always want, and a long guide, cause you might need it.
Everything about the subscriber site is new, even if it looks similar to the new ad-supported site, so it can do some amazing things you might not discover or understand without some explanation. My Nameberry partner Hugh Hunter and I spent the last year building this for you, so we want you to be able to use all its cool features.
I’ll post both guides when they’re ready. Meanwhile, post any questions you have about the new site here and I will answer them.
This isn’t about the site as a whole, but about the forums— is it purposeful that we can no longer send new PMs and easily access old ones, or is this something that will be fixed? Thanks
Hi @pam, with the new subscriber site, will we be able to gift a subscription to someone if we would like to, much like they offer on YouTube subscriptions? And if so, what is the process around that? Thank you!
I’m not sure. Let me investigate though it may take a bit. As I have complained to everyone, Discourse is a really arcane program and making it work in any tailored way is challenging. So bear with us but thank you for posting here as it will help me keep track.
Hi [name_f]Pam[/name_f] – I was really shocked and disappointed when I logged in last week and found that I was abruptly cut off from replying in forums, without even the ability to ask what was going on. I’m grateful to have been restored as a legacy member and will be weighing whether or not I want to subscribe for site access.
But for forums only, is the “Elderberries” comp group membership permanent, or is there a threshold I need to meet to keep it? While I was locked out, I did read through some threads discussing access level – I never knew about this feature or about the “Lounge,” and saw folks saying things like you had to log in for 20 of the past 30 days to keep access. So, do I now have grandfathered access to the forums forever? Or will I be cut off again next month when I take a 2 week vacation without my computer?
Thanks in advance for the clarity. If I’m going to be cut off again, it is what it is, but being abruptly kicked out with no explanation or ability to ask for one was really disheartening and I just want to know what to expect.
Hey, I’m sorry if this has already been posted about somewhere, I did look but wasn’t able to find anything! I just wanted to ask, are some name pages for subscribers only? I noticed today that one name I clicked on wouldn’t show me any information, just the ‘members only’ information box with pricing options. I refreshed the page and still the same.
I wondered if I’d used up my free quota of names for the day, but tried going on other random name pages and they all worked fine. [name_f]Any[/name_f] guidance would be appreciated
[name_m]The[/name_m] free access for the Elderberries (ie you and other longtime forum members) is for the forums only. [name_m]You[/name_m] can try out the subscriber version of the site for $5 for three months if you want.
as someone part of the comp forum access group, do I still get to change my profile picture/cover photo? I tried but the option was greyed out. I could only change my bio.
[name_m]The[/name_m] ban was only supposed to extend to photos in posts but due to technical restrictions it ended up applying to everything. It has been brought up repeatedly but so far it isn’t a priority to fix. According to this post from @Kipperbo1, it’s possible that profile pictures will be brought back now, but nothing is certain (it’s an old post).
What name is it? Names are all supposed to be freely available but sometimes one change automatically creates others, like taking the old stock images off lists and blogs took them off the quizzes (and we had to manually replace) and maybe is what’s happening with the photos in the forums. As you know, Nameberry is vast! Let me know the name and i’ll investigate
In terms of photos on the forums, they’re built in a different platform (discourse) which is very hard to wrangle. @Greyblue do you know anything about this?
