Quaint seaside names for girls

I am looking for names that evoke the image of places like the [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] Shore (and I don’t mean the TV Show - Blergh!) I mean this gorgeous seaside towns like Cape [name_f]May[/name_f], NJ, Old Orchard [name_m]Beach[/name_m], ME and Cape Cod, MA. Kind of like Victorian/Georgian meets beachy. Any ideas?

Never been there but names with a beach/island/ocean meaning: [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Oceane[/name_f], [name_f]Nerida[/name_f], [name_f]Nerissa[/name_f], [name_u]Pasha[/name_u], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Maren[/name_f], [name_f]Marilla[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_f]Morgana[/name_f].

I picture girls with formal names (and Edwardian dresses) going by cutesy nicknames 'cause it’s summer.

This sort of image or this

So:
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f], NN [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Katharine[/name_f], NN [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] - I picked the spelling of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] that used to be big that’s fallen the furthest.
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - NN [name_m]Teddie[/name_m] and name-mirror [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] - NN [name_f]Dot[/name_f].
[name_f]Theresa[/name_f], NN [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
Basically any of the old-school girls’ nicknames work: [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Janie[/name_f], even [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] but NOT [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. (Pre-40s [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] wasn’t short for [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]!)

And “lost” names basically nobody is named after 1920 work: [name_f]Iola[/name_f], [name_f]Izora[/name_f], [name_f]Dovie[/name_f], [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f], [name_f]Celestia[/name_f], etc. Quirk works, for me, in this context. But it doesn’t have to be super weird, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] work too.

Victorian/Georgian meets beachy is a really interesting description! I’d be thinking something along the lines of [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Pia[/name_f], [name_f]Pelagia[/name_f], [name_f]Mariella[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Clemency[/name_f] or Providence. [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] is also coming to mind but that could be because of the character’s trip to Margate (a British seaside town) in Pride and Prejudice!

Juuuuust kidding. My mind goes right to Victorian flowery names - [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]…
What about the place-name Chatham? It’s a gorgeous town on Cape Cod with adorable white cottages.
What about [name_u]Piper[/name_u] (as in sandpiper)?
This is a fun topic…

[name_u]Bay[/name_u] is the first thing that comes to mind.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Katerina[/name_f]

Names with a classic base and a little bit of a twist, maybe?

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] - classic, Victorian, and [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] [name_m]Beach[/name_m], SC
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] - [name_f]Martha[/name_f]'s Vineyard
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]

Hopefully this helps!

[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]? It is a place name, but it’s so beautiful. Also, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f]/[name_f]Beth[/name_f]/[name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Allie[/name_u], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]/a

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Briony[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]

(i used to live in Cape [name_f]May[/name_f], and it is beautiful and misty and the victorians are just so cute. so that’s what i thought of.)

maybe also

[name_f]Beverly[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

maybe also

[name_f]Beverly[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] lives by the sea. Really, though. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] could work.

Also: [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Inez[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Mariana[/name_f], [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], [name_f]Maida[/name_f] (now out of use, but there was an old children’s series about a little girl named [name_f]Maida[/name_f] – one book was called “[name_f]Maida[/name_f]'s [name_m]Little[/name_m] Island.”)

@sodallas3: Guess what! We have a [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] names blog coming up soon, including those seaside towns!

[name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], or [name_f]Coral[/name_f] all have a nice beach, vintage feel.

[name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], Defina are some more options. I personally think [name_f]Della[/name_f] is very under rated. It has all the spunk of a [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Stella[/name_f], has all the vintage charm, but doesn’t seem to be a favorite. I also like the nick name [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] for [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] or [name_f]Delphina[/name_f].

Zyphyrine- Sounds like a modern invention but was a [name_m]French[/name_m] princess back in the 1700s.

I actually love [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], with nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f].But now I will forever think of Moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] from the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] series.

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is a mostly used as a boys name but I think could be unisex.

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] also has a nice a warm, coastal feel to it. I think more then [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

That’s terrific, [name_f]Linda[/name_f]! I am so looking forward to that, thanks for letting me know
Thanks Berries! Great suggestions, feel free to keep them coming.
