Questions about Delia

It’s funny but I even say [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] as (kor-deel-yah)

I love [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Melusine[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Elsinore[/name_f], and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] very much.

One question out of curiosity: how would you pronounce [name_f]Elsinore[/name_f]?

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Merrily[/name_f] is unique and interesting!

Thank you for your compliments  my mother’s name is [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] and so recently I have started to want to honor her somewhere in my kid’s names and that is the thought behind a possible [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Colleen[/name_f]

Meredite is one I have never heard of! It seems super rare, do you happen to know the history behind it?

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Emony[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Elisenda[/name_f] are high up on my list too and I’m alternating between spelling [name_f]Elisenda[/name_f] as Elisende or not…

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites that you posted:

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f] - as a result of this suggestion you prompted me to think of [name_f]Delia[/name_f] Madalina instead! Mădălina is Romania’s version of [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Zenaida[/name_f] - I also like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Zinaida[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Alcyone[/name_f] - very interesting combo.
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Rahela[/name_f] - sounds so exotic and feminine
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Loredana[/name_f] - sounds steely and feminine

You have great tastes, I always enjoy name combos put together by you!

In Spanish, we say Deh-lee-ah, so that’s how I’m used to hearing it. However in [name_f]English[/name_f], I lean towards saying Dee-lee-ah, due to the nn for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]

The usual Romanian pronunciation is (deh-lee-ah) as well

I would pronounce:

[name_f]Delia[/name_f]: DEE-lee-a
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]: DOLL-ee-a
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f]: really not sure. I could see it being DAY-lee-a, da-LEE-a, DAL-ee-a (first syllable rhyming with “pal”) or DOLL-ee-a (same as Dahlia).

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]! I’m not 100% clear on your intended pronunciation of [name_f]Delia[/name_f], but I’d imagine it’d be easy enough to pick it up in person (harder of course to type it out).

For me pronounciation goes:

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] (deh-lee-ah)
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] (DAHL-ya)
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f] (day-lee-ah)

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Delia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]! I know [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] is a name in its own right but I tend to view it as a not as pretty version of [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]

Pronounce same as you but also know 1 deel-yuh pronunciation.

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Emony[/name_f] is lovely and not so much l- sound from your combos.

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Victorine[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Bethan[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] Manderley, [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Fiore[/name_u], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Carmine[/name_u], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] Francette, [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Suzette[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f]

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Emony[/name_f] is striking if I do say so myself and it diverges from my usual taste for sure.

I liked quite a few of your middle name combo suggestions, these are all of them:
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] Francette - mainly cause this is a brand new name discovery!
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Victorine[/name_f] - more for the look on this one than the sound
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Fiore[/name_u] - so sterling and beautiful
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Carmine[/name_u] - usually I think this is a boy name but flipping it to use as a girl’s is cool
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite [name_m]Favorite[/name_m] is [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] :wilted_flower:

I also like the look of [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Victorine[/name_f] to use it
Francette/Minette have been loves for twenty+ years. [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] is sneaking up on me.

Sabine/Sabina- variant depending on the day, pretty much been my number one name for three decades.

Thank you! Meredite is a rare Portuguese version of [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] (it’s Portuguese by origin but is also used in Spanish on occasion)

Thank you for your response!

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] holds significant sentimental value even though the name [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] without that emotion behind it is just lukewarm for me.

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Emony[/name_f] is super unique and I love it for the fact that it doesn’t happen to be a tired out and recurring option when it comes to my name ideas.

[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is simply a dainty yet rich and pretty name.

I have to mention that your rankings are pretty darn close to my own which is not always common so I wanted to comment on it.

A hobby of mine is finding archaic and rare forms / elaborations / diminutives of names I already like or even completely foreign names altogether (meaning the culture is foreign or that I have never heard of them even once). I happen to run to foreign languages a lot to get this quality and make these discoveries, my other method is travelling back in time whether it be ancient [name_u]Rome[/name_u] and Greece or [name_u]Egypt[/name_u], the 1900s and 1910s, the 1800s, 1700s, 1600s, renaissance period, medieval period, or the BC era which has a whole treasure trove of old but new names that are in Aramaic or Hebrew or Persian or Sanskrit that are just waiting to be seen again.
What I’m getting to with this really long explanation lol is that I now know that in the modern era (like 19th/20th/21st centuries) the language with the most “secret” names or variations of names is Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. Everytime I see a Portuguese name it’s really special because almost always it is a name that has never crossed my radar before, it’s distinct there’s nothing else like it, and it’s of course attractive  I have nothing but adoration for the Portuguese language mixed with a bit of awe.

When it comed to names and variations from the pre modern day period I think that medieval [name_u]French[/name_u], renaissance era Italian & Romanian, [name_u]Dark[/name_u] Ages era [name_f]English[/name_f], and in ancient times Greek had the largest repertoire of things that are new.

Basically I’m not surprised Meredite is Portuguese because it fits right in with the trend I have been noticing

Oddly enough i know 3 Colleen’s, all pretty close to me… maybe my name being [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] has something to do with it? =)

I am all for middle names with significance even if its not aesthetic perfection, but i actually liked [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] the best purely based on how it sounded for what it’s worth!

That’s a great compliment and I appreciate your opinion especially because [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] is not exactly a popular name on here
