[name_f]Delia[/name_f] has always been a name on my radar but never a name I’ve chosen as one that would be a good first given name.
But now I’m able to separate it from names like [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] that I have also typically liked a lot, I think it sounds much more established and has a beautiful sweetness to it. Plus I prefer the look of the e compared to the letter a that’s featured in [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dalia[/name_f].
I’m pronouncing [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as (DEH-lee-ah) although I can comprehend how some other people come to the (DEEL-yuh) or (DEEL-ya) pronounciation. How do each one of you instinctively pronounce it is what I’m wondering?
I’m officially starting to hunt for middle names that would be ideal matches with [name_f]Delia[/name_f] so any name recommendation will be much appreciated names I have picked out so far:
I love [name_f]Delia[/name_f]! It’s the name of multiple relatives of mine and I’ve known tons of Delia’s because it’s extremely popular in Hispanic communities like where I live, I’ve only pronounced it DEHL-yah, said slower it would be exactly the same way you pronounce it, and that’s my instinct for it. I like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Emony[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Elisenda[/name_f]! Some ideas~
my first thought is delia owens (author of where the crawdads sing) and i’m not sure if that’s a big association at all. i do see it pronounced as DEH-lee-ah as well.
I say it DEE-lee-ah, it has quite 1960s vibes for me although I also love it as a nickname for Cordelia which makes it feel more romantic and timeless. I like the simplicity of Delia Belle!
DEEL-yuh is my instinctive pronunciation. I’ve known one [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and that’s how she pronounced it.
I like your ideas of [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Colleen[/name_f]. I also thought of [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f].
I have been pronouncing it DEL-ee-ah but would of course, pronounce it as the parents introduce her. Of your options I love [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Caterina[/name_f]. It has such a classy vibe.
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Blodwen[/name_f] is eye catching / ear catching but not a name I would personally pick. I did want to comment that I think it’s standout ability is pretty cool though.
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] is absolutely heavenly
I instinctively pronounce [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as DEEL-ee-uh. I like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Elisenda[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] from your list! Some other suggestions ~
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Mari[/name_f] - this combo drew me immediately to it but the middle name is too short for my tastes. I usually don’t like the first and second names to appear the same length.
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_u]Azure[/name_u] - this one I like a lot a lot and it will be one I consider. Thanks
