Questions About Elsa

I’m loving [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] currently, but do have some reservations. I worry it’s too nicknamey? And maybe a little too frumpy? [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I love old names. And what does every one think of [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]?

And do you prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] to [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]?

I have 2 friends named [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and I think its beautiful! It’s easy to say and I really like it because it’s not too common! [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is beautiful but I do like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] better for it’s uniqueness!

I confess I view [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] (much like [name_f]Essie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]) as somewhat frumpy. Interestingly, I like [name_f]Ilsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], which are not so far away.

I do prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] to [name_f]Elsa[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is lovely! [name_m]Just[/name_m] a warning–[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] may skyrocket in popularity, with the addition of the new Disney [name_f]Princess[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] the [name_f]Snow[/name_f] [name_f]Queen[/name_f] from Frozen. I think you’ll be fine, though, so long as you don’t use [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or any of its variations in a sibset (or [name_m]Hans[/name_m], [name_m]Kristoff[/name_m], [name_m]Sven[/name_m], [name_m]Olaf[/name_m], [name_u]Kai[/name_u], [name_f]Gerda[/name_f], Oaken, Sitron, [name_f]Snow[/name_f], or Arendelle, for that matter)!

Frozen is one of the reasons I like it, actually. And I’m hoping that maybe the movie will help it shed its old lady persona.

I know an [name_f]Else[/name_f] (Belgian) pronounced [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. She is about 13 yrs old and she wears it very well! I don’t think it is nicknamey at all.

I adore [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. It’s on my list but I think it’s too short for our family. Short but not nicknamey [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_u]Van[/name_u] Helsing and have never gotten an old lady vibe from it.

[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]!
It was a lead contender for my daughter, but it doesn’t work with my last name very well.

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is great!

I absolutely adore [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]! I do not see it as frumpy at all. I agree that the fact that [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a main character in Frozen will help shed any frumpy associations others have with it.

The combo [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is delightful. I think it’s a very pretty name.

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] was high on my list for my last daughter. Still love it. I do love your combination of [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], but I don’t prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] over [name_f]Elsa[/name_f].

I don’t think it is too nicknamey or too frumpy, although I know some people find it fusty and cow-ish…just from feedback I had gotten years ago.
I will chime in that the movie will likely make the name more useable, but it has its own set of annoyances. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is named [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], and she hates that wherever we go now, people comment on her name. Kids constantly tease her and tell her to show them her powers, ask her if she can make ice, etc. (to be silly), and it really bothers her. I am hoping that this strong association will fade in time, as the movie is such a huge thing right now. But I don’t think it will ever be shed, she will probably have to deal with comments forever. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though the character is a good, strong, character…I wish her name wasn’t so tied to the movie. Kind of like how people think “the little mermaid” when they hear [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], people will think “frozen” when they hear [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. Honestly, I adore the name, but I don’t think I would have used it if I could project into the future and know about the movie. Not to discourage you from using it, I just wanted to add my two cents

I find it humble and pretty. I don’t think it sounds nickname-y at all. Sounds complete and sweet.

Why not [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], nicknamed [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. I think it’s beautiful and charming!

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is very quickly becoming one of my favourites but DH is not so much a fan!

I do not think it is nicknamey at all unlike its other variation [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. You could have fn [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] easily!

I think it is short , sweet and spunky but simultaneously it is classic, elegant abd timeless, much like my favourite, [name_f]Nora[/name_f]

I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] but probably only because I know SO many people with this somewhere in their name that it doesn’t hold any magic or uniqueness to me but it is a pretty name. I don’t think you can go far wrong with [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

P.S. I have not seen Frozen yet so maybe I’ll steer clear so that my opinion isn’t skewed!

I’ve always thought of the Baroness from Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f] when I hear [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], so it is not at all frumpy to me!!

I love [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]! I loved it before Frozen came out and I love it even more since it came out! I just think it is a nice, shorter and fresher [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Also the visuals I get in my head of snowflakes and mountains with sunrises is just beautiful. It’s cute but grown up and I myself have actually considered going by it. And it certainly doesn’t seem frumpy; the Disney connection also helps with that. Nicknamey? Not really, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] doesn’t seem nicknamey (to me anyways) so I don’t see why [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] should seem that way.

I don’t think of [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] as being old at all! Perhaps because it was the name of one of my best friend’s mom’s growing up. I would use it because I’ve liked it for a long time but a) my husband doesn’t like it and b) I’m worried about the Frozen connection

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is definitely on my radar since Frozen esp as my grandmother is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. I like it sweet, short with a little bit of sass <3

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] definitely isn’t old! It’s sort of nicknamey but in a “nickname that can stand on its own” way. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is stunning, by the way!

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is stunning! It’s

Thank you all for replying! I’m feeling much better about my love for [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] right now.
